About the position

We are seeking a versatile and highly skilled Open-Source Database Administrator (DBA) to join our established database support team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, enterprise-scale environment supporting critical business systems and data platforms.

As an Open-Source DBA, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, optimization, security, and ongoing support of our database environments. You will work alongside developers, DevOps engineers, infrastructure specialists, SecOps teams, and business stakeholders to ensure the availability, performance, and integrity of mission-critical data assets.

Key Responsibilities



Open-Source Database Support

• Support and administer PostgreSQL database environments.
• Manage and support additional open-source databases including MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Support cloud-based database services across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud environments.
• Manage and maintain Oracle GoldenGate (OGG) replication environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve replication, performance, and database-related issues.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation for critical systems.

Database Design, Installation & Maintenance

• Design and implement highly available database architectures.
• Deploy and maintain replication and disaster recovery solutions.
• Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and migrate database environments across development, test, and production platforms.
• Ensure database environments meet business continuity and availability requirements.

Monitoring & Capacity Management

• Monitor system performance and database health.
• Proactively tune databases to meet service level objectives.
• Perform capacity planning and resource optimization.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Develop, maintain, and test backup and recovery procedures.
• Ensure Active-Active and Disaster Recovery environments remain synchronized.
• Support business continuity and disaster recovery exercises.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

• Automate routine database administration tasks.
• Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC), scripting, and CI/CD tools to improve operational efficiency.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement across database services.

Security & Compliance

• Implement database security controls, encryption, and access management.
• Ensure compliance with security policies, standards, and best practices.
• Proactively identify and mitigate database security risks.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Work closely within Agile and SAFe delivery teams.
• Support projects and new business initiatives involving database technologies.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and operational reports.
• Communicate project progress, risks, and support activities to stakeholders and management.

Required Skills & Experience



Essential

Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, STEM discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Minimum 5 years' experience supporting PostgreSQL or open-source databases in a production environment.

Strong expertise in:

• PostgreSQL architecture and administration
• Performance tuning and optimization
• SQL development and query optimization
• Replication technologies
• High Availability (HA) solutions
• Disaster Recovery (DR)

Experience with:

• Hybrid cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure
• Linux administration (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)
• Monitoring tools such as:
  • Prometheus
  • Grafana
  • Zabbix
• Automation platforms including:
  • Ansible
  • Terraform

Exposure to:

• SAFe Agile methodologies
• Project delivery environments
• DevOps practices

• Oracle GoldenGate administration.
