About the position

Postion Summary:
The Egagasini Node for marine offshore systems was established in 2007 as one of the SAEON Nodes for long term observations. It has grown into an internationally-recognised long-term ocean observing and modelling network. Whilst feeding into the SAEON vision, the Node vision is to advance our understanding of our marine systems through the ability to detect, predict and react to global change in order to create a sustainable ocean environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create operational ocean products and metrics that describe the state of the ocean to support stakeholder needs
• Report on the results to SAEON, DFFE, CSIR, DSTI and relevant stakeholdersEffective data management and documentation of operating proceduresScience communication through outreach and engagement activities

Minimum Qualification:

• Honours Degree / Post Graduate Qualification / Professional Qualification / NQF 8

Minimum Experience:

• 3-5 years

• MSc in physical oceanography (or a marine-related field) or Honours Degree in Oceanography (or marine-related field) with at least 3 years work experience

Experience:

• Proficient in python programmingSkilled in the management and analysis of large datasets analysisExperience with Linux operating systems would be beneficialExperience using a high-performance computer (e

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of Southern African ocean environment as well as relevant stakeholders
