About the position

Introduction
Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for an Occupational Medical Practitioner to provide specialised occupational and primary healthcare services to Mintek, ensuring the effective management of workplace health risks, compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, and the implementation of medical surveillance and employee wellness programmes. The role is responsible for advising management on occupational health matters, promoting a safe and healthy work environment, and supporting the organisation in maintaining optimal employee health and operational continuity. The successful incumbent must hold a Certificate in Ionising Radiation in the Workplace for Medical Practitioners and will provide specialised occupational and primary healthcare services across the organisation.
Duties & Responsibilities
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • Provide a professional and cost effective occupational and primary healthcare service.
  • Promote and implement a high performance culture within the area of responsibility.
  • Advise senior management on occupational health programmes, legal and regulatory compliance, and trends related to workplace exposure.
  • Deliver comprehensive best practice services in occupational medicine, environmental health, occupational hygiene, employee wellness, and occupational safety.
  • Formulate and maintain occupational health policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Implement and manage medical surveillance programmes aligned to employee exposure risks.
  • Investigate excessive sick absenteeism and manage disability cases where required.
  • Manage and support work related clinical matters, including incapacity management and hearing conservation programmes.
  • Conduct health risk assessments, walk through inspections, and recommend risk based medical surveillance programmes.
  • Review Project Information Charts (PICs) and provide guidance on required biological monitoring.
  • Attend SHEQ meetings and present occupational health risks to relevant divisions when required.
  • Compile and submit monthly and quarterly occupational health reports to management.

Desired Experience & Qualification
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • MBChB qualification.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Medicine.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a medical practitioner.
  • Certificate in Ionising Radiation in the Workplace for Medical Practitioners.
  • At least three (3) years' post graduate medical experience, including occupational health exposure.
  • A valid dispensing certificate.
  • A valid driver's licence.
  • Medical certificate of fitness.
