Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Practitioner
Location: Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa
Job Type: Full-Time
Department: Facilities / Property Management
Reports To: OHS Manager / Regional Operations Manager
Purpose of the Role
To ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures across a national property portfolio. The OHS Practitioner will manage risk, conduct audits, and implement safety systems to protect employees, tenants, contractors, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Risk Management
- Implement and monitor OHS systems and controls in line with legal and regulatory requirements
- Conduct risk assessments, site inspections, and audits
- Ensure compliance with the OHS Act, COID, and other relevant legislation
- Investigate incidents and accidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions
- Escalate non-compliance issues to relevant managers and departments
Training & Awareness
- Develop and deliver OHS training programs and awareness campaigns
- Organize seminars, webinars, and onboarding safety sessions for new employees
- Update training materials in line with legislative changes and best practices
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and compliance activities
- Compile and manage Health & Safety files for new and ongoing projects
- Prepare monthly and ad-hoc reports for management and stakeholders
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with internal departments (HR, Facilities, Operations) and external contractors
- Provide expert advice and mentorship on OHS matters
- Attend Department of Labour inspections and inquiries when required
Candidate Profile
A qualified and experienced OHS professional with a strong background in facilities, property management, or construction. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of leading safety initiatives across multiple sites. They must be comfortable working independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication and analytical skills.
Qualifications & Experience
- SAMTRAC / HIRA / NEBOSH / OHS Certificate or equivalent
- Minimum 3–5 years in OHS, preferably in facilities, property management, or construction
- Experience with electronic business management systems and OHS audits

- Strong analytical and risk assessment skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication

- Proficiency in MS Office and safety management systems
- Ability to recommend and implement technical solutions
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Familiarity with SANS standards and hazardous materials handling
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- Registered with SACPCMP (preferred)
- Willingness to travel to various sites across South Africa
