Duties and Responsibilities:
- Healthcare:
- Ensure that all healthcare objectives of our client are met.
- Maintain a cooperative relationship among healthcare teams by communicating information; responding to requests, building rapport, and participating in team problem-solving methods
- Conduct weekly meetings with the catering service to discuss residents’ diets, requests, and grievances
- Facilitate continued communication between the residents and their families, ensuring that a high standard of care is maintained
- Daily updates of resident status and bed occupancy
- Ensure the bed occupancy of the frail care unit is optimally maintained
- Approve and screen all admissions and be involved to ensure that assessments are done, and liaise with all relevant members of the multi-disciplinary team (where the new resident is coming from) to ensure continuation of care
- Create and maintain an environment of dignity, compassion, peace, hospitality, and respect
- Safeguarding to ensure the absolute full protection of vulnerable children and elders cared for
- Oversee that malpractice and indemnity insurance is taken out, covering all staff
- Provide in-service training meeting all guidelines
- Manage the disaster program in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines

- Formulate the successful induction of all staff on the required contracts
- Perform performance reviews with the Facility Manager according to our client's program and the Department of Labour
- Program and coordinate training of carers, staff nurses, and sisters
- Coordinate timetables in accordance with operational needs and care requirements
- Compile monthly operating and capital budgets and variance reports, and contribute to annual budgets
- Compile monthly statistics and healthcare reports
- Action monthly checks of all billing and invoices before posting thereof
- Be available for counseling, both residents and staff
- Maintain nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports, identifying trends, anticipating needed supplies, approving requisitions, and cost allocations
- Control and record prescription drugs within legislative requirements
- Ensure that the weekly schedule 5, 6 & 7 medicines are checked
- Manage service level agreement for disposal of hazardous waste, blister packing of medication
- Compliance:
- Maintain nursing guidelines by writing and updating codes of conduct
- Maintain nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures
- Assure quality of care by developing and interpreting the client's and nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care; enforcing adherence to SANC and other governing regulations; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending adjustments
- Assist with departments undergoing inspections with DOH, DOMH, and DSD
- Ensure Legal compliance at all times related to:
- Registration with Department of Social Development, Department of Health
- Disciplinary procedures according to the Labour Act and adhere to the company’s policies and Codes of Conduct
- Keep all records of staff on probation review times
Qualification:
- Nursing and ward administration for at least 10 years, with previous experience in Geriatrics preferable
- 3 years in a leadership role with excellent leadership and people skills
