About the position
ENVIRONMENT:
A leading school supplies provider is seeking a dynamic and driven New Business Development (NBD) Consultant to identify and acquire high-potential commercial clients across all nine product categories: Stationery, Office Paper, Catering & Hygiene, Office Furniture, Specialist Filing Systems (Hardware and Software), IT Supplies, IT Hardware, and Promotional Gifting. This role is key to expanding market share and building a strong sales pipeline. The NBD Consultant focuses on securing and onboarding new clients, with accounts transferred to the Key Account Management (KAM) team or Outbound Centre once stabilised, depending on their size and strategic value. The role also includes reactivating dormant or lapsed accounts with a history of high spend.
DUTIES:
- Prospecting & Lead Generation: Actively identify, research and qualify new business opportunities across all applicable sectors within the Johannesburg and Pretoria metros, with a particular focus on large-scale, high-value potential accounts.
- Sales Pipeline Development: Build and maintain a robust personal pipeline to ensure a consistent flow of opportunities. Maintain accurate records of activity, leads and outcomes using internal tools available.
- Client Engagement & Pitching: Conduct needs analysis and deliver compelling presentations and proposals tailored to client requirements across their full product range.
- Onboarding & Handover: Oversee the onboarding of new accounts up to their first 90 days of trade. Ensure a seamless and professional handover to the appropriate KAM or the Outbound Centre.
- Lapsed Account Recovery: Audit and target previously active clients who have reduced or stopped trading. Re-engage and recover accounts through personalised outreach and value propositions.
- Cross-Category Engagement: Introduce clients to the full value of the Group by aligning solutions with multiple categories and reinforcing their one-stop solution capability.
- Sales Agreement Structuring: Collaborate with management to negotiate competitive but profitable agreements, ensuring adherence to strategic pricing and trading profit frameworks.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor industry trends, customer insights and competitor activities to refine acquisition strategies and identify market gaps.
- Reporting: Provide weekly reports on lead status, pipeline health, and conversion metrics. Highlight barriers, wins, and category trends from client engagements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (Matric) – essential
- Diploma or Degree in Sales, Marketing, or Business Management – preferred
- Minimum of 4–6 years proven new business acquisition experience, preferably in B2B environments or within a related industry
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel locally as needed
