About the position
Background:
- Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences
- WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives
- In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to Academics
Division: HIV Molecular
Main purpose of the job:
- To join a cutting-edge, multidisciplinary, international Research team, gaining hands-on experience in molecular biology, nanotechnology and translation biomedical research
Location:
- University of the Witwatersrand, Parktown
Key performance areas:
- Optimise DNA construct design
- Conduct and validate nanoparticle delivery of novel biotherapeutics in vitro using mammalian cell culture methods
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in virology, immunology and nanotechnology
- Present findings at Group meetings, conferences and collaborator progress meetings
Required minimum education and training:
- Honours Degree in in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Virology, Immunology or related fields
Required minimum work experience:
- No work experience required
Department:
- HIV Pathogenesis Research Unit, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- 2 years’ experience working in molecular biology laboratory or equivalent
- Mammalian cell culture/aseptic technique
- Nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) handling and manipulations techniques
- Protein expression, purification and characterisation
- Familiarity with immunological assays
