About the position
MEL Internship (six month contract) with innovative NPO
OceanHub Africa (OHA) is the continent’s leading enabler of ocean-impact entrepreneurship. Headquartered in Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront, we support, connect, and invest in African ventures and ecosystem actors working at the intersection of ocean health, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.
Through our venture support programs, knowledge partnerships, and convening platforms such as the Ocean Innovation Africa Summit, we build bridges between innovation and inclusion, science and entrepreneurship, grassroots communities and global capital. We are committed to shaping a just, regenerative, and blue economy, from coastal villages to regional venture ecosystems.
We now seek a motivated and detail-oriented Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Intern on a six month contract to support the development of a robust internal M&E system and contribute to the preparation of our 5-Year Impact Report. The role will involve applying no-code and automation tools to improve data collection, analysis, and reporting processes
You will be required to deliver a M&E Framework (including KPIs, indicators, and data sources), an operational MEL system using no-code tools together with internal documentation and user guide for MEL processes.
In addition, you will draft content and data visualizations for the 5-Year Impact Report and generate a final presentation of learnings together with recommendations to enhance MEL activities.
To be considered for the role, you will need to be a final-year student or recent graduate in Development Studies, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Economics, or related field, be familiar with M&E concepts and impact measurement frameworks (e.g., SDGs, IRIS+, OECD DAC) and comfortable using no-code tools for system design and automation (e.g., Google Suite, Notion, Tally, Zapier/Make)
Strong analytical and writing skills, with attention to detail are critical and an interest in sustainability, entrepreneurship, or ocean innovation is an advantage
In return we offer the opportunity to co-create a strategic MEL system for a growing innovation hub, gain exposure to impact-driven programs and data-driven decision-making and enjoy the mentorship and collaboration with a dynamic, purpose-driven team.
In addition to flexible, hybrid working arrangements and a generous monthly stipend, this role presents a unique opportunity to join a group of people who are focussed on making a real difference in the lives of individuals and communities whilst positively impacting sustainability, the environment and ocean economy. You will be exposed to and have the opportunity to create relationships with key industry players and thought leaders from around the world.
