Main purpose of the job:

  • The purpose of this position is to maintain accurate and consistent demographic surveillance data by contacting migrated participants, liaising with sites, and reconciling migration records to prevent duplicate individuals or households, resolve outstanding migration statuses, and ensure correct residency and household membership information
  • The role also involves linking children to their biological mothers, querying and updating databases, and verifying participant details to maintain accurate records within the Demographic Surveillance Area (DSA)
  • In addition, the Migration Reconciliator supports office-based special projects, including data management, data cleaning, data entry tool development, and other tasks assigned by the Line Manager

Key performance areas:

Migration Reconciliator:

  • Ensure there are no duplicate individuals and households
  • Ensure there are no hanging status observations and migration episodes
  • Ensure every child is correctly linked to their biological mother
  • Calling participants to ensure details are correctly updated
  • Ensure all study procedures are ethically performed
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures
  • Participate in regular and ad hoc training and meetings for data collection

Data Entry Tool Development:

  • Manage, maintain, and contribute to development and expansion of complex longitudinal health and socio-demographic relational databases
  • Develop scripts and applications for temporal integrity checking, data cleaning and extraction
  • Perform routine database quality checks to ensure excellent data quality
  • Help maintain an archive of scientific data
  • Contribute to maintenance, tuning, and operation of network systems
  • Provide user support
  • Program surveys into survey platforms (survey solutions)
  • Support and train fieldworkers/supervisors on using the survey platforms
  • Review survey questionnaires for quality and maintain consistency across report types and therapy areas
  • Ensure the questionnaire will result in a survey of reasonable length by suggesting effective ways of reducing overall length and survey fatigue
  • Test surveys to ensure all programming instructions, logic, flow have been implemented
  • Perform soft launch data checks in to ensure the programming is functioning flawlessly
  • Explore ways to utilize our systems to create a better respondent experience

Quality Assurance / Quality Control Management:

  • Review data files for completeness prior to data entry
  • Send data queries to Supervisors
  • Reconcile double-data entry

Reporting:

  • Maintain monitoring file on study’s data entry systems
  • Update sites on survey updates timeously
  • Follow-up on data queries from sites and data manager

Required minimum education and training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field
  • A Social Science background will be advantageous

Required minimum work experience:

  • 2 years’ experience in Surveillance Data Collection

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:

  • Ability to prioritize and work under pressure on a variety of tasks concurrently
  • High attention to detail required for repetitive tasks
  • Communicate effectively
  • Maintain effective working relationships with the study site data contacts
  • Communicate regularly with the sites and data managers and participate in the SAPRIN community of practice
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and act tactfully
