About the position
A leading furniture manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Mid-Weight Draughtsman with strong CAD skills and practical knowledge of woodworking, joinery, and manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will develop accurate 3D models, technical drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs), translating design concepts into production-ready documentation. They will also oversee prototyping and collaborate with design, technical, and production teams to ensure quality and manufacturing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce accurate 3D models, technical drawings, and production-ready shop drawings.
- Prepare design packs and BOMs, specifying materials, fittings, and components.
- Recommend suitable materials and joinery methods for furniture designs.
- Coordinate prototyping and work with production teams to resolve technical challenges.
- Maintain an organised digital library of drawings and ensure version control.
- Update drawings and BOMs following design or material changes.
- Collaborate with designers, the Technical Manager, and production teams to ensure feasibility and timely delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve product quality and production efficiency.
Minimum Requirements:
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in technical furniture design or draughting, preferably involving solid timber and wood-based materials.
- A three-year diploma or higher qualification in Drafting, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and Fusion, or similar CAD software.
- Strong knowledge of woodworking, joinery, furniture construction, and manufacturing processes.
- CNC machine or programming experience will be advantageous.
- Proven project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and take designs from concept to production.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transport are essential.
