About the position
We are seeking a Mid-Level Finance Manager to join a dynamic and fast-paced legal services environment. The ideal candidate will have strong financial reporting expertise, excellent analytical skills, and proven experience managing finance operations within a law firm. Experience working on GhostPractice is essential and non-negotiable.
Key Responsibilities
As the Mid-Level Finance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring financial accuracy, transparency, and compliance across the firm. Responsibilities include:
- Leading monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes in line with accounting standards and Legal Practice Council requirements
- Preparing and reviewing management accounts, budgets, and forecasts, providing variance analysis and actionable insights for leadership
- Overseeing trust account reconciliations, billing processes, and client account reporting in accordance with legal industry standards
- Managing cash flow forecasting, working capital, and financial controls to support operational stability and growth
- Developing dashboards and financial reporting tools to enhance transparency and support strategic decision-making
- Coordinating audit preparation and liaising with external auditors and regulatory bodies
- Monitoring and analysing key performance indicators (KPIs) such as collections efficiency, cost management, and profitability tracking
- Driving process improvements and automation in financial reporting and data management
- Providing leadership and mentorship to junior finance staff
- Collaborating with operations and legal teams to align financial outcomes with the firm's strategic objectives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (BCom preferred)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a finance management or senior accounting role
- Mandatory:
- Previous experience working in a law firm (non-negotiable)
- Proficiency and hands-on experience with GhostPractice (non-negotiable)
- Proven financial reporting and management accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and advanced Excel skills
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Experience in a legal, collections, or professional services environment advantageous
