About the position
The Packer is responsible for accurately packing spices, maintaining organized and well stocked shelves, ensuring a clean and inviting shop environment. This role supports daily shop operations by preparing products for sale, rotating stocks, assisting customers when needed and helping maintain product quality and freshness.
Job Description:Merchandiser/Packer
Location: Cavendish (Southern Suburbs)
Requirements
- Matric
- Strong Math skills .
- Intermediate English verbal communication skills and written skills.
- Basic PC Knowledge.
- Must be able to work weekends and public holidays.
- The merchandiser position requires standing for extended periods of time, as well as bending, stooping, and lifting /pulling sacks and bales of masala averaging between 20-30 kgs.
- Must be able to work and function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in a food service or retail industry is advantageous.
- Prior experience as a merchandiser/packer or in a similar role preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and professional customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail – checking labels.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills .
- Ability to work in a fast past environment
Visual Merchandising
- Implement and maintain attractive and effective spice displays.
- Ensure consistency across store sections .
- Ensure seasonal and promotional displays are timely and relevant.
- Ensure all shelves and displays are stocked adequately with spices, pickles, condiments, etc.
- Ensure shelves are clean, organized and visually appealing.
- Rotate stock (FIFO method) to maintain quality standards and reduce waste.
- Check for low inventory, damaged packaging or expired products.
Packing & Product Preparation
- Fill and seal spice packets when necessary.
- Ensure prices are on products, and the manufacturing date and best before dates are not compromised when packing.
- Labels must not be compromised.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of spices to maintain freshness and aroma.
- Follow hygiene and safety guidelines in all packing activities.
Customer Service
- Assist customers in finding products when needed.
- Provide customers with basic knowledge (e.g. flavours, names used, purposes of spices)
- Offer friendly and helpful service while maintaining workspace priorities
Cleanliness/Housekeeping & Organization
- Keep shelves and packing areas clutter free, dust free and organized.
- Savoury area must be cleaned daily and must be monitored, and stock level must be always maintained.
- Ensure when frying savouries the amount fried is in consultation with the Supervisor and store standard.
- Ensure the use of gloves when handling food products.
Promotions & Upselling
- Maintain an awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
- Inform all customers about the stores current promotions and offers.
- Enlighten customers about new products, persuade customers to try out demos made.
Team Support
- Assist other staff members during busy periods and perform store duties as needed.
- Assist with weekly and daily Stock counts and report on stock levels.
- Receive and pack stock items on shelves and shop floor.
Health & Safety
- Adhere to all food safety regulation and health and safety regulations.
- Adhere to safe food handling processes when working with prepared food and with preparation of food.
- Follow all food handling, safety and cleanliness standards.
