About the position
Mercedes Benz South Africa Limited has an opportunity for the Principal Officer to oversee their Medical Aid Fund, MBMED. The medical aid is administered by Medscheme and requires a Principal Officer with a knowledge of the requirements and legislation surrounding the medical aid arena. The position is PART-TIME and would require around 15 hours per month.
- To act in the best interests of the members of the MBMED Scheme at all times
- Execute alL decisions and instructions from the Board without any unnecessary delays while keeping the Board fully and informed of the affairs of the MBMED Scheme concerning all matters relating to the duties of the Board as stated in Section 57(4) of the Medical Schemes Act
- All decisions made cincerning the affairs of the MBMED Scheme are made with prior authorisation while observin the authority of the Board
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- All reasonable saction are taken for the collection of and accounting for all monies received and payments authorised by and made on behalf of the scheme
- Maintain full and proper records of all monies received, expenses incurred by the Scheme and of all assets, liabilities and financial transactions of the scheme is kept by /or on behalf of the scheme
- Maintain full compliance with all statutory requirements pertaining to the preparation of annual financial statements and all statutory requirements pertaining thereto
- Perform all duties as necessary for the proper execution of the business of the Scheme including but not limited to, particpation in all Board meetings and any other duly appointed Committees where their attendance is required whilst ensuring proper recording of the proceddings of all meetings
- Manage all third 0part contracts on behalf of the Scheme, including with the appointed Fund Administrator, all managed healthcare companies and all appointed Consultants and Service Providers
- This position reports directly to the Chair person of the Scheme.
Minimum Requirements
- A post-graduate qualification, preferably in accounting, business management, law or health sciences (NQF Level: 8 or equivalent).
- At least five (5) years management or consulting experience in the medical scheme industry or health
- Previous experience as a Principal Officer would be an advantage
- Proven leadership behaviours with good people management and problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to manage relationshipps with a variety of partners and stakeholders
- Good knowledge and understanding of legislation applicable to medical aid
- Ability to apply technical and professional
- Decisive and achievement
- Able to work remotely and to travel as required.

About The Employer:
The MBMED Medical Aid Fund is a restricted medical aid scheme for employees and qualifying pensioners of Mercedes-Benz South Africa Ltd and is registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act 131 of 1998, as amended, of South Africa.
As of 30 November 2022 the scheme had approximately 4 300 principal members and 6 200 dependent members.
The scheme funds health care benefits and reimbursements according to its rules.
