About the position

They are seeking a motivated and technically minded Mechatronic Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Stellenbosch. This opportunity is ideal for a recent graduate or an engineer with up to two years of experience who is looking to gain hands-on exposure across machine design, automation, PLC programming, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
Responsibilities:
Machine Design & Development
- Design and develop new production machinery for both primary and secondary production environments.
- Assist with both mechanical and electrical machine design activities.
- Prepare electrical diagrams and technical drawings.
- Source components and engage with existing and new suppliers regarding technical requirements and specifications.
- Support the implementation and commissioning of new equipment and automation systems.
PLC Programming & Automation
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs.
- Support machine automation initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
- Assist with fault finding and optimisation of automated systems.
Documentation & Standardisation
- Develop and maintain clear and accurate engineering documentation.
- Prepare machine design documentation, validation protocols, and technical reports.
- Contribute to the standardisation of engineering processes and documentation practices.
Technical Support
- Provide technical support to production teams when required.
- Assist in resolving production-related engineering challenges and machine issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth production operations.
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
- Maintain a proactive approach towards safety, quality, and operational excellence.
- Participate in training, upskilling initiatives, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing business and production requirements.
- Work closely with senior engineering staff and benefit from ongoing mentorship and technical guidance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronic Engineering.
- Recent graduate or up to 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
- Exposure to machine design, automation, or manufacturing environments will be advantageous.
- Basic understanding of PLC programming and automation principles.
- Experience with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, will be beneficial.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
