About the position

Lead mechanical maintenance excellence in a high-performance chemical manufacturing environment.

Is this you?
You're a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise in mechanical maintenance within a heavy industrial or chemical plant environment. Safety is non-negotiable for you, and you lead from the front when it comes to compliance, quality, and best practice. You're organised, decisive, and confident managing Artisans, Contractors, and shutdowns. With a sharp eye for plant availability and cost control, you balance operational urgency with structured maintenance planning. You enjoy mentoring your team and driving continuous improvement.

What you'll be doing
You'll manage the site's Mechanical maintenance team, ensuring plant availability through effective execution of maintenance strategies. This includes supervising mechanical and boiler making work, optimising maintenance activities, conducting failure investigations, and ensuring shutdowns are delivered on time and within budget. You'll ensure strict adherence to site safety standards, complete job observations and non-conformance investigations, and make certain all artisans and contractors comply with OHSA requirements. You'll manage work orders, control costs within budget, oversee maintenance tools and equipment, coordinate spares, and ensure accurate documentation and reporting. Team development, succession planning, contractor management, and performance reviews will also form a key part of your role.

Where you'll be doing it
This opportunity is based in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, where you'll be working in a fast-paced, innovative environment. The company, a leader in its industry, prides itself on maintaining high-quality production processes and strictly adhering to safety and environmental standards. You'll be part of a team that values excellence and is committed to continuous improvement in all areas of operations, with a strong emphasis on ISO [Phone Number Removed];, and OSHAS 18001 systems.

What you'll need
To succeed in this role, you will need a Mechanical Trade Test. Having a N6 Mechanical qualification is highly advantageous. You will have at least 8-10 years of experience in a heavy industry or chemical plant environment, 5 of those in a supervisory or managerial role. Strong knowledge of plant safety, maintenance systems, and ISO standards is required. You must be computer literate (MS Office, SAP).

What's in it for you
You'll receive a competitive salary and benefits package that includes a basic salary, 65% medical aid company contribution for employee, spouse and up to 3 kids, pension fund, risk benefit, bargaining council, funeral scheme and skills development levy. Beyond the financial rewards, you'll have the opportunity to work with a leading global company that values innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement. Furthermore, they believe in recognising and celebrating exceptional individual and company performance, and thus, you will have the opportunity to earn a company performance-based bonus.

Our client offers a stable and financially secure work environment, known for its great culture and emphasis on skill development.
