About the position
Our client, a leading mining concern, is looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join their team in Limpopo, for a 12 month contract (renewable).
The purpose of the role includes the following:
Work Description:
- To support the Project Manager and ultimately the PMO Office Manager in accordance with SIB Framework, Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
- To ensure the Project Support Office (Process) complies with Corporate Governance and maintain the Project Management aspect of the SIB Framework, Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
- To apply knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to Project Engineering activities in order to meet or exceed deliverables required from a project.
- To be responsible for assisting the Project Manager in his normal duties.
Technical Work Requirements:
- Working knowledge of Project Management.
- Exceptional multi-discipline engineering skills.
- Good Project Planning and Scheduling skills.
- Exceptional Engineering specification understanding.
Core Work Outputs:
- Assist in managing the safety aspects during construction.
- Assist with the initiation, defining and planning the project (Concept & Feasibility).
- Execute the project.
- Hand over and close out projects.
- Governance with regards to Project Engineering.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist in managing the safety aspects during construction
- Assist in managing of SHEQ.
- Assist with the conducting of Risk Assessments for construction activities (ongoing).
- Ensure site specific Safety, Health Environment (SHE) Requirements.
- Mitigate risks.
- Monitor and control risks.
Assist with the initiation, defining and planning the project (Concept & Feasibility)
- Attend and assist with Risk Assessments and Hazop meetings. (ongoing).
- Assist with the developing of Project Schedules including Tie-Ins and Shutdowns.
Execute the project
- Set up specifications
- Verify the Scope and Specifications.
- Obtain client approval of design and drawings.
- Request Invitations to Tender.
- Invite Tenderers for Site Inspection meetings.
- Receive Tenders.
- Assist with "Bid Clarification" meetings.
- Adjudicate Tenders.
- Assist during awarding of contracts.
- Assist during the conducting of the Fabrication / Construction / Quality "Kick-Off" meetings.
- Ensure the fabrication, delivery and construction of project within time and cost limits.
- Assist with Quality Inspections.
- Assist with the conducting of ongoing "Progress" meetings with the EPCM / Contractors.
- Assist with the conducting of ongoing "Feedback" meetings with the client.
- Assist with the ongoing reporting on progress of projects.
- Assist with the managing of the Cold Commissioning.
- Facilitate training (Operation and Maintenance).
- Assist the Construction Manager with Pre-Commissioning meetings.
- Assist the Construction Manager with commissioning meetings.
Assist with the hand over and close out of operations
- Assist with arranging of Hot Commissioning with the client.
- Assist with the delivering of Critical Spares.
- Assist with the provisional handing over of the project.
- Assist with the conducting of Hand-Over meetings with the client.
- Assist with the beneficial handing over of the project and issuing Beneficial Hand-Over Certificate.
- Assist with the final hand over of the project and issuing Final Hand-Over Certificate.
Governance with regards to Project Engineering
- Assist in managing of project delivery with regards to time:
- Manage resources effectively.
- Plan resource effectively.
- Maintain communication structures.
- Assist in managing of project delivery with regards to cost:
- Administer Project Cash Flow.
- Compile Project Cash Flow Reports.
- Assist in managing of project delivery with regards to QA/QC for fabrication and construction:
- Specify QA / QC requirements.
- Conduct QA / QC inspections.
- Manage Project Specifications / Design codes.
- Assist in managing of project delivery with regards to QA/QC for policies, procedures and systems:
- Implement the SIB Framework within the PMO (Process).
- Ensure that a quality management discipline and procedures are followed.
- Adhere to policies, procedures and standards with regards to risk and statutory compliance.
- Assist in managing of project audits with regards to policies, procedures and systems:
- Assist with site specific audits.
- Implement audit recommendations.
- Assist in managing of project delivery with regards to contractual issues:
- Ensure that the Project complies within the legal framework established in the company
- Manage contracts (NEC, AP42 etc.).
- Ensure compliance in terms of SIB Framework regarding contractual issues.
- Perform general aspects:
- Assist in managing of the Project Team and related activities.
- Perform a supervisory role.
- Assist in managing of customer & client relationship (external, internal and cross discipline interfaces).
- Contribute to Management Reports.
- Develop employees / contractors.
- Attend training sessions.
- Arrange meetings.
- Conduct meetings.
- Attend meetings.
- Report on own Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- NHD, BSC/Btech (Mechanical Engineering)
- GCC will be advantageous
- Project Management Certificate or Diploma.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in Mining/Process Project Management.
- Good written and verbal skills.
- Good people skills.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Project, SAP and Lotus Notes.
- Certificate of fitness.
