About the position
TRADE TESTED MECHANICAL FITTER – VACANCY
Our client is currently seeking a qualified Trade Tested Mechanical Fitter with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the relevant field to join their team.
Key responsibilities:
Mechanical Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out routine, preventative, and breakdown maintenance at client sites on waste management equipment, including compactors, balers, conveyors, shredders, screens, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose mechanical faults on-site and perform effective repairs to minimize downtime at client facilities.
- Install, assemble, dismantle, and align mechanical equipment at client premises
- Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company policies, and applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Completing service reports, job cards, and maintenance records accurately
- Ability to perform minor welding when required
Client Site Support
- Provide professional maintenance support while working on client premises.
- Liaise with Manager when required regarding equipment condition and maintenance activities.
- Ensure work is completed with minimal disruption to client operations
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Comply with company, and legal health, safety, and environmental requirements while on client sites
- Follow site-specific safety rules, permits, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards at all client locations.
- Report hazards, near misses, and incidents in line with company procedures
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete job cards, service reports, and maintenance records accurately for work performed at client sites.
General Duties
- Be available to travel to multiple client sites as required.
- Participate in standby, overtime, or callouts where required.
- Perform any reasonable maintenance-related duties as instructed
Skills & Competencies
- Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and fault-finding skills
- Ability to work independently at client sites
- Good communication and professional conduct when interacting with client
Qualifications
- Trade Certificate: Mechanical Fitter or equivalent
- Matric / Grade 12 (preferred)
Experience
- 2–5 years’ mechanical fitting experience in waste management, heavy industry, or plant maintenance
- Drivers Licence – Code 08
