About the position
ENVIRONMENT:
MAINTAIN safe, reliable and efficient production equipment by combining strong electrical expertise with practical mechanical skills, reducing downtime and improving equipment availability and performance as the next Mechanical Fitter sought by a global Investment Group in The Netherlands. The ideal candidate must have a strong Electrical Engineering background, where your core role will be to maintain, repair and improve industrial machinery and production equipment. You will combine practical mechanical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve electrical faults. You understand how mechanical systems, electric motors, drives, sensors and machine controls work together. When equipment fails, you assess the complete installation, identify whether the cause is mechanical, electrical or control-related, and implement a safe and lasting solution. The role covers preventive maintenance, breakdown response, equipment refurbishment, machine modifications and commissioning.
DUTIES:
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults on industrial machinery.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
- Perform electrical measurements and systematically investigate faults in power, control and motor circuits.
- Install, connect, test and maintain electric motors and associated drive systems.
- Inspect and replace sensors, limit switches, relays, contactors and other electrical components.
- Troubleshoot variable frequency drives and electrically controlled hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Investigate faults on PLC-controlled machinery, including checking input and output signals.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Dismantle, overhaul, assemble and align bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, pumps and conveyor systems.
- Test and adjust machinery following repairs, maintenance or modifications.
- Record maintenance activities and recommend improvements to reduce recurring faults and production downtime.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications -
- Candidates must hold a relevant technical qualification with a substantial electrical component, such as Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, a Millwright trade qualification or an equivalent combination of recognised training and experience.
Experience/Skills –
- A solid understanding of industrial electrical systems and electrical safety.
- Hands-on experience diagnosing electrical faults on production machinery.
- Knowledge of three-phase motors, motor protection, electrical circuits and drive systems.
- The ability to read electrical schematics and use electrical testing equipment.
- Experience with sensors, relays, contactors and machine control systems.
- Experience with variable frequency drives and a working knowledge of PLC systems.
- Experience limited to mechanically replacing electric motors is insufficient.
- The candidate must understand their electrical operation and be able to investigate faults in the associated circuits and controls.
- Alongside your electrical expertise, you will have a strong foundation in mechanical maintenance. This includes experience with drives, bearings, pumps, conveyors, hydraulics and pneumatics.
- You must be able to assemble and align components accurately, assess equipment condition and determine when repair, refurbishment or replacement is required.
ATTRIBUTES:
- You work independently, accurately and methodically.
- During breakdowns, you remain focused and investigate the underlying cause of the problem.
- Safety is central to your work.
- You follow isolation and lockout procedures and carry out tasks within your training, competence and authorisation.
- You work closely with operators, maintenance colleagues and automation specialists, communicating clearly about faults, completed repairs and required follow-up actions.
