About the position
Our client, a leading Engineering Consultant is looking to appoint a Mechanical Engineer to join their team for a 6-month Petrochemical project based in Rivonia, Johannesburg.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional registration (e.g., PrEng) is advantageous.
- 5+ years' experience in mechanical engineering within petrochemical, oil & gas, or related industries.
- Experience with EPC/EPCM projects preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Engineering & Design
- Develop mechanical designs for static and rotating equipment (e.g., pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors).
- Prepare and review:
- Equipment datasheets
- Technical specifications
- Mechanical calculations
- Material selection reports
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
Project Execution
- Support all project phases including FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
- Review vendor drawings and documents for compliance with specifications.
- Provide technical support during equipment fabrication and installation.
- Participate in HAZOP, design reviews, and risk assessments.
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Evaluate vendor bids and technical proposals.
- Liaise with suppliers to ensure equipment meets project requirements.
- Conduct factory acceptance tests (FAT) and inspections.
Construction & Commissioning
- Provide on-site engineering support during construction.
- Assist with mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and recommend corrective actions.
