Mechanical Draughtsman

About the position

Duties and Responsibilities

• Take accurate physical measurements of equipment, components and structures using manual measuring tools and instruments.
• Operate a 3D scanner to capture precise dimensional data and verify it against physical measurements and specifications.
• Travel to client, workshop or company sites as required to take measurements and gather information.
• Prepare detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical parts, assemblies and fabrication layouts using Autodesk Inventor and other CAD/drawing software.
• Generate general arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and installation layouts.
• Create exploded views and section drawings for complex assemblies.
• Interpret engineering sketches, concepts and specifications accurately.
• Ensure all drawings conform to relevant industry standards and company procedures.
• Apply correct tolerances, dimensions, surface finishes, welding symbols and material specifications to drawings.
• Liaise with the Workshop team to understand fabrication capabilities and constraints.
• Work with the Sales team to translate client requirements and quotations into accurate technical drawings.
• Collaborate with the Engineering team on design concepts, feasibility, tolerances and revisions.
• Coordinate with the Site team to plan visits, confirm measurements and support on-site installation queries.
• Attend design meetings and site inspections as required.
• Develop and maintain accurate drawing records, revision logs and drawing registers.
• Prepare and update Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Provide technical support to the workshop team during manufacturing and assembly.
• Address and resolve drawing-related issues and provide clarifications in a timely manner.
• Assist with quality assurance checks by verifying drawing compliance against measured/scanned data.
• Always comply with company policies & procedures.

Requirements

• National Diploma (N6) or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Required).
• Minimum 3 years' hands-on experience in a mechanical drafting role.
• Proficient in Autodesk Inventor; working knowledge of other CAD/drawing software will be advantageous.
• Experience using 3D scanning equipment for dimensional verification will be advantageous.
• Sound knowledge of mechanical design and manufacturing/fabrication processes.
• Experience producing general arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
