Mechanical Design Engineer

About the position

An international materials handling company requires the above to contribute to the company's on-going success by delivering sustainable solutions to our clients through the application of excellent design skills.
Minimum requirements for the role: 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar technical qualification) is essential.


• Minimum of 4 years Engineering experience in a similar environment.


• Process and Materials Handling design experience is required.


• Structural design experience advantageous.


• Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD is essential.


• FEA Analysis experience advantageous.


• Basic software development skills preferable.


• A technical aptitude is a must.


• Excellent written communication and presentation skills required.


• Must have good problem-solving skills and a creative approach for new ideas.


• Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision.


• Ability to prototype quickly.


• Must be data driven.


• Must be able to work in a team.


• Ability to prioritize and plan effectively.


• Own transport and valid driver’s license is essential.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Promoting the development of the company’s technologies and increasing the general knowledge level within the company.


• Developing creative ways to streamline company processes and increase internal efficiency.


• Continually developing and improving support models for customer support and service center.


• New technology and product development.


• Working with the PR, marketing, and sales departments to establish a go-to-market strategy.


• Conducting test work and determining the suitability of available equipment to the client’s requirements.


• Producing technical reports and specifications in connection with any test work performed.


• Assisting the customer in understanding the demands of the material and the implications of machine selection on upstream and downstream processes.


• Creating product definitions tailored according to clients’ needs.


• Creating and registering items and bills of materials in the relevant information system to allow for the procurement of machines/spares/equipment.


• Commission new equipment to meet the company’s and the clients operating requirements.


• Assisting in ensuring that any manufactured components are manufactured to the highest levels, by means of accurate drawings, technical descriptions, quality requirement lists etc. as well as interacting with the supplier and relevant procurement representative.


• Liaising with customers through the relevant customer support consultant to develop an understanding of the customers’ needs.


• Conducting investigations into equipment failures and any customer operational concerns.


• Conducting system audits of customer sites to determine system efficiency and assist in plant optimization.


• Producing technical reports detailing any failure investigations as well as audits/optimisation exercises.


• Managing engineering processes (ECP’s, drawing requests, QIR’s etc.).


• Administering the engineering system (Network data, machine register, manuals, IPC’s etc.)


• Assisting in ensuring component drawings and QRLs are accurate and drawn to the company’s requirements.
