A well-known international Agricultural / Fertiliser company requires the above to provide timely, reliable, and actionable market intelligence to support the commercial, pricing, planning, and growth decisions across the African fertiliser markets.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- A bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Finance, Business, Marketing, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related field is preferred for the role.
- Previous experience having worked in market intelligence, market analysis, strategy, commercial analytics, consulting, or commodity research or a related role within the Agricultural / Fertiliser markets, with evidence of managing complex analytical workstreams, is essential for the role.
- Previous experience having worked within the fertiliser, phosphates, ammonia, agriculture, or related markets is required; direct African fertiliser-market exposure is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience having worked in research, forecasting, competitor analysis, market sizing, pricing analysis, and executive reporting is preferred for the role.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint capability; experience working with Power BI or other data-visualisation tools and market-intelligence platforms is advantageous.
- Must be able to build transparent analytical models, test scenarios, interpret incomplete data, and communicate confidence levels and limitations.
- Must have strong commercial judgment, strategic thinking, structured problem-solving, and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal English, executive presentation, and stakeholder-influencing skills.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing timely, reliable, and actionable market intelligence to support the companies commercial, pricing, planning, and growth decisions across the African Fertiliser markets.
- Monitoring regional supply, demand, trade flows, prices, competitor activity, customer and crop-market developments, regulation, logistics constraints, and macroeconomic factors; converting complex information into practical insights, scenarios, forecasts, and recommendations; and maintaining a controlled regional market-intelligence knowledge base.
- Supporting market prioritisation, sales and product strategy, annual planning, business cases, partnerships, and investment assessments while remaining appropriately scoped as an Africa-focused manager role rather than a global market-intelligence director position.
- Building and maintaining a structured intelligence view of fertiliser markets across priority African countries, including market size, consumption, production, imports, exports, seasonal demand, application trends, distribution channels and key participants.
- Monitoring regional and global developments that materially affect Africa, including production outages, capacity additions, trade flows, freight, port constraints, raw-material movements, policy changes, foreign exchange, weather, crop economics and geopolitical developments.
- Maintaining regional price series, benchmarks, netback views, freight-adjusted comparisons and historical trend analyses for relevant products and markets.
- Developing and updating short- and medium-term scenarios for supply, demand, imports, prices, competitor behaviour and market balances using documented assumptions.
- Maintaining profiles of relevant producers, exporters, importers, distributors, blenders and major customers, including product portfolios, capacity, market presence, channels, pricing behaviour, partnerships, strengths and risks.
- Conducting market segmentation and opportunity sizing by country, crop, product, customer segment, application, channel and route to market.
- Monitoring crop calendars, planted areas, yields, farmer economics, subsidy programmes, fertiliser affordability, nutrient-use patterns and agronomic developments that influence demand.
- Coordinating with Agronomy, Product Development, Sales and Marketing to identify product needs, grade opportunities, application trends and market-development priorities.
- Assessing demand implications of climate, rainfall, commodity prices, farm economics and changes in agricultural policy.
- Providing Africa-focused inputs to annual and long-range marketing and business plans, including key assumptions, country priorities, market risks, growth pools and scenario implications.
- Supporting business cases, market-entry assessments, product-development decisions, partnerships, strategic alliances, JVs and downstream opportunities through pre-due-diligence and due-diligence analysis.
- Producing recurring and ad hoc reports, executive briefs, presentations, market outlooks and scenario analyses for MMSA and relevant HQ stakeholders.
- Maintaining regular working relationships with Commercial, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Strategy, Agronomy, Product Development, Risk, Legal and Compliance.
