About the position
A South African financial services cooperative is looking for a Managing Executive to run its insurance broking business, covering both life and short-term insurance. You report to the Group CEO, and you are appointed a Director of the broking business and serve on its Board. You own the strategy and you own the result: the direction and positioning of the business, the business plan and its execution, and the financial growth behind it - the budgets, the operating performance and the initiatives that improve it. The relationships with the insurance product providers sit with you as well, and they are the commercial foundation the business rests on. Governance is part of the job rather than a committee item: King IV, the statutory framework and the risk register are yours to drive, not to inherit. You will need at least ten years in insurance, preferably in a broking environment, including at least five years at executive management level, and experience managing product provider relationships. An Honours degree in Business Management or Financial Management is required, along with a valid driving licence. On top of the monthly package there is a short-term incentive of 50 per cent of annual salary for on-par performance, and a long-term incentive of a further 50 per cent vesting over three years. Retirement funding flexes between 8 and 27.5 per cent of package, so you structure it around your own tax position rather than taking a fixed contribution. In support of our client's employment equity plan, preference will be given to candidates from the designated groups.
