General Manager: Theatre Operations (Soweto)

A prominent and well-established performing arts institution is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead one of its flagship theatre venues in Soweto. This is an exciting opportunity to drive operational excellence, grow revenue, and shape a vibrant cultural hub that serves diverse audiences.

Your Role:

As General Manager, you will take full responsibility for the strategic, operational, and commercial performance of the theatre. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, oversee day-to-day operations, and ensure the venue delivers exceptional experiences for both audiences and performers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all theatre operations, ensuring world-class service delivery
  • Develop and implement a sustainable business strategy
  • Drive revenue growth through innovative programming and partnerships
  • Oversee facilities, infrastructure, and technical operations
  • Build and maintain relationships with artists, promoters, and stakeholders
  • Deliver impactful marketing initiatives to grow audiences
  • Ensure effective communication channels and stakeholder engagement

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Management (NQF 7)
  • 10+ years' experience in senior management / general management roles
  • Strong operational leadership and business management skills
  • Proven ability to drive revenue and manage budgets
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and lead in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in arts, entertainment, events, or public sector environments advantageous
