About the position

Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS seeks to appoint the Manager: SAINTS to implement iThemba LABS human capacity development strategy through SAINTS (Southern African Institute of Nuclear Technology and Sciences) in consultation with the managing director, departmental heads and all relevant training stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implementing iThemba LABS Human Capacity Development strategy through SAINTS (Southern African Institute of Nuclear Technology and Sciences) in consultation with the managing director, departmental heads and all relevant training stakeholders
  • Management of Training Platforms: Employee Education Assistance, Post-graduate training and internship programs of iThemba LABS Promote strategic interest and visibility of iThemba LABS through representation on various national and/or international bodies
  • Promoting employment equity, diversity and transformation; together with Compliance with and adherence to NRF Human Resources Policies and ProceduresFinancial Management

Minimum Qualification:
  • Doctoral Degree / NQF 10

Minimum Experience:
  • 10-15 years
  • PhD (NQF Level 10, Physics or related field)10 years in relevant capacityDemonstrated experience in implementing, managing and monitoring a human capacity development function in a research institution

Experience:
  • Experience in the development, co-ordination, and implementation of specialized curriculum and course modulesAbility to work in co-ordination with a diverse team of research scientistsExperience in co-ordination of training events, eg training workshops, specialist lectures, summer schools, etcExperience in student training programmes with demonstrable ability to mentor studentsDemonstrable experience and understanding of the importance of curriculum development for specialized coursesExperience in mentoring and managing staffStrong leadership skills with ability to represent and project a positive image of the organization to relevant stakeholdersFamiliarity and experience with talent management/development, succession planning, ETD / skills development strategies in collaboration with human resources

Knowledge:
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience within research and training environment in implementation of training strategiesAbility to develop strategies for human capacity training and development Significant experience in co-ordinating skills development programs through interaction between HEIs and National Research FacilitiesAbility to foster relationships with tertiary institutions, including HEI’s and TVET collegesExcellent and proven leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to convene, manage and co-ordinate curriculum development commiteesComprehensive understanding of the school, further education and training, and tertiary education systems in South Africa
  • Excellent writing, editing, communication and analytical skillsFamiliarity with accelerator-based research and training landscape on national, regional and international platformsExcellent interpersonal skills with demonstrable ability to build strong relationships with institutional stakeholdersInternational Networking abilityEfficient negotiation skillsAbility to work under pressure
