Well…that’s this job. If budgets, forecasts, dashboards, cost control and project performance are your thing and you enjoy sitting where finance, engineering and operations all collide, one of the world’s largest mining companies has a seat with your name on it.
Our client is a globally recognised mining powerhouse, operating massive, technically complex projects where financial accuracy is just as important as operational execution. Based in Johannesburg East, they’re looking for a commercially sharp Project Finance Manager to partner closely with project teams, engineers and operational leadership. This role sits right in the middle of the action, tracking project performance, controlling costs, strengthening reporting and ensuring capital projects stay financially on course from planning through execution.

You’ll need to be comfortable challenging numbers, questioning variances and translating financial data into insights that operational teams can actually use. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive project budgeting, forecasting and cost control processes
  • Analyse project financial performance and provide weekly / monthly forecasts
  • Prepare cost reports, variance analysis and capital expenditure reporting
  • Partner with engineers and project managers to improve financial performance
  • Strengthen financial controls and support internal / external audit processes
  • Optimise and improve reporting efficiencies
  • Develop dashboards and insights
  • Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency and total cost of ownership
  • Enhance reporting processes and support continuous improvement initiatives

Job Experience and Skills Required:

  • Minimum BCom Honours Degree
  • CIMA qualification beneficial
  • 7+ years’ experience in project finance or project controlling environments
  • Strong experience in project budgeting, costing, forecasting and controls
  • Experience working closely with project managers and engineering teams
  • Experience with reporting tools such as QlikView, PowerBI, or similar
  • Exposure to project management systems
  • SAP experience beneficial
  • Strong report writing, analytical and leadership capability
  • Ability to translate operational data into meaningful financial insight
