About the position
Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS seeks to appoint a Manager: Electronics Engineering in the Accelerator Operations and Technical Support (ATS) Department, under the Control Electronics and Software Engineering (CESE) division.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance and expertise in the design, development, integration, maintenance and repairs control and safety systems
- Design, development, integration, operations, maintenance and repairs of power supplies, control electronics and control software for all accelerator platforms within NRF iThemba LABS
- Project management and coordination within the division
- Plan and co-ordinate day-to-day activities for the electronics team members
- Coordinate the assembling, installation, testing and commissioning of projects
- Provide input to line manager to determine the most cost-efficient manner to upgrade, repair and maintain control electronics
- Provide input into the control system architecture definition and evaluationResearch and propose new technologies, systems and methods
- Provide advisory services to other organisations that collaborate with NRF iThemba LABS pertaining to control system technical aspects
- Contribute to lifecycle management of control system componentsParticipate in procurement processes by providing technical specifications and market research
- Provide coaching and mentoring to junior staff and students
Minimum Qualification:
- Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7
Minimum Experience:
- NQF 7/B
- Tech or equivalent in Electronics Engineering or Mechatronics
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in electronics and control systems engineering environment, which includes 3 years in a technical management role
Knowledge:
- Expertise in electrical, electronics and control system design
- PLC based control systems design, development and maintenancePower Electronics and HV power supplies repairs and maintenanceExperience with high-speed digital and analog electronics as well as digital signal processing
- Strong knowledge of motion control (stepper motors)Embedded programmingPCB Layout designProject ManagementPeople managementExperience with interlock systems (advantageous)Experience with Linux systems (advantageous)
