About the position

Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS seeks to appoint a Manager: Electronics Engineering to be responsible for leading the electronics engineering division into a high-performing team that designs, builds, tests and commissions electronic instrumentation.

The incumbent will be responsible for management of the Electronics Engineering Division team and effectively deliver on electronics hardware design goals as well as providing support to internal and external researchers as required by the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage electronic engineering division
• Determine requirements and develop electronic instrumentation and control instrumentations for research departments
• Maintain and develop instrumentation and related control systems
• Train and mentor staff in an agile environment
• Research and implement new ways of solving electronic and instrumentation engineeringMinimum Qualification:
• MSc/MEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering or equivalent and 5 years experience or a BSC Eng/B Eng with 8 years experience inclusive of 3 years experience in a management position

Experience:

• Experience in managing a team
• Experience with and knowledge of radio frequency, analogue, digital, and high-speed digital electronics
• Experience with digital signal processioning techniques, hardware description language design, embedded programming, Linux development and control system theory
• Availability to work outside regular working hours

Knowledge:

• Excellent written and communication skills
• Knowledge of project portfolio management, project controls
• Demonstrable capability to work in a multidisciplinary project team
• Basic understanding of radiation safety (advantageous)
• Good communication both verbal and written
• A comprehensive understanding of electrical health and safety regulations

• Experience with relevant production processes and electronics in the industrial environment
