MANAGER C&I ENGINEERING
Rivonia, Johannesburg
To act as technical leader, expert and mentor in the C&I department. This includes technical responsibility for the department`s input related to proposals and contracts.
Ensure that designs and technical solutions are produced in a professional and cost-effective manner, to high standards.
Have engineering integrity and comply with legal and industry requirements.
To keep abreast of all projects executed within the department by performing regular team meetings and maintaining the project dashboard and manpower resourcing tool.
Job Specification:
The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the job as summarised below, but not limited to:
- Technical Management of the Control & Instrumentation Engineering Department.
- Oversee the design and approval of C&I engineering technical documents.
- Provide liaison between the Project team/clients/contracts/authorities/licensor inter alia acting as a catalyst in anticipating and overcoming problems.
- Preparation of project standards, engineering and technical specification
- Report on project progress to HOD Engineering
- Provide input to HOD Engineering for manpower planning and technical assistance with recruitment of C&I engineers.
- The introduction and development of new ideas is an important aspect of the job to enhance design, services, policies and procedures.
- Execute cost effective estimates for professional services related to the C&I engineering department.
- Execution of the C&I scope on EPC and EPCM projects.
- Embrace and support transformation initiatives of the company.
- Liaise with other high value centres within the Group.
- Encourage the team work sharing with other high value centres.
- Responsible for the skills matrix and identification of training needs for the department.
- Ensure the execution of C&I engineering deliverables in accordance with the quality requirements and applicable codes and standards
- Assist in / preparation of project standards, engineering and technical specification
- Technical leadership and mentorship of engineers.
- Technical & administrative management of the C&I Department within approved project budgets and schedules

Technical Competencies
- Competence in control systems, instrumentation and field engineering
- Proficient with Instrument selection and specifications
- Proficient in control valve sizing and selection
- Proficient in flow meter sizing and selection
- Proficient in hazardous area requirements especially intrinsic safe calculations
- Knowledge of applicable design codes
- Proficient in control system design
- Development of complex P&IDs
- Development of SIL documentation. SIL verification and functional safety design.
- Knowledge of functional safety systems
- Development of complex control narratives
- Knowledge of dimension and configuration of instrumentation
- Full understanding of the quality management system
- Fully proficient in development of instrumentation and control system design deliverables
- Facilitation of reviews e.g. SIL, Alarm Rationalization
- Proficient in the application of control & instrumentation software and design tools, including SmartPlant INTOOLS.
- Proficient in preparation and issuing technical specifications and enquiry documentation to vendors and subsequent review of vendor documentation to ensure design integrity and compliance with specifications.
- Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services
- Estimate and compile BoQs
- Ability to provide technical expertise and guidance across multiple projects.
- Project site experience including commissioning/ pre-commissioning and construction support experience is required.
Education
- The candidate must be in possession of a BSc/BEng Electrical/Electronic Engineering degree and be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
Work Experience
- Should have a minimum of 10 years` relevant design experience.
- Experience in Oil and Gas Environment is essential.
- Working knowledge of NEC would be an added advantage
- Managerial skills are essential for this position.
- Additional Educational Requirements
- Proficiency with MS Office suite and the use of software programs related to Instrument Engineering Design and the preparation of technical specifications is also required.
