Reporting to our Senior Utilities Technician, you'll be working in a fast-paced, safety-first environment where your mechanical and electrical expertise will help us drive excellence, every day.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on plant machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Perform mechanical and electrical fault-finding and repairs on critical systems such as boilers, ammonia refrigeration plant, water treatment facilities, compressors, pasteurizers, and fillers.
- Respond quickly and effectively to unplanned breakdowns, troubleshoot faults, and collaborate with production to restore operations efficiently.
- Maintain, repair, and install electrical systems, including building and upgrading panels, wiring, and control systems.
- Assist with general maintenance across departments, including pumps, hydrolifts, agitators, and flow meters.
- Refurbish, rebuild, and replace worn or damaged mechanical and electrical parts to extend equipment lifespan.
- Keep detailed maintenance records, including work performed, parts used, time taken, and associated costs.
- Promote and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment by following 5S principles and safety protocols.
- Provide hands-on support to junior maintenance staff and apprentices; assist in their training and skills development.
- Participate in a standby rotation to provide after-hours maintenance support, including weekends and public holidays when required.
- Communicate clearly and regularly with production, engineering, and utilities teams to ensure alignment on maintenance priorities.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Grade 12 (Matric) and Millwright Trade Certificate (minimum N4).
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Technician/ Millwright, preferably in a food or beverage manufacturing environment with exposure to Tetra Pak equipment beneficial.
- Strong expertise in both mechanical and electrical maintenance, including fault-finding, control panels, and switchgear.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team environment.
- Strong planning and time management abilities, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
