Maintenance Officer at Sentech

About the position

Durban Operations Centre invites qualifying and interested candidates to apply for the Maintenance Officer position for the maintenance of the Southern Region Infrastructure ( site building and roads) and assist with maintaining mast infrastructure and satellite dishes, antenna installation and replacements and assist the technicians and electricians

Candidates with prospects for success should:

• Matric
• A valid code EB/ C driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle. Applicant to undergo driving assessment during interview. An EC, EC1 and PrDP category D will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of two years practical experience in a mechanical / electrical / cleaning industry / as a handyman / installation assistant and/or in an infrastructure maintenance environment
• Be contactable at all times.

The job responsibilities include the following:

• Housekeeping on sites and at the Operation Centre including sweeping, mopping and polishing of floors.
• Repair and maintain buildings, fences and roads
• Assist Technicians with work as per instructions
• Assist Electricians with standby generator and airconditioning maintenance and repairs
• Implement relevant safety procedures
• Supervise casual labour and vendors when required
• Safe usage of power tools including grinders, drills, brush-cutters, and chainsaws
• Driving including Hazardous Substance transportation
• Gas and Arc welding
• Painting and minor building and infrastructure maintenance
• First line maintenance of standby and uninterruptable power supplies
• First line maintenance of air-conditioning systems
• Maintain electrical reticulation systems
• Climb masts up to 300m
• Drive long distances, work long hours and away from home when required
• Perform standby duties on a rotation basis and be available for call outs in the event of
  emergencies
• Be self-motivated, perform under pressure and take responsibility for his/her career development within Sentech
• Use and maintenance of electrical power tools
• First line diesel engine maintenance
• First line electrical maintenance
• Basic construction and welding
• Correctly report status of infrastructure

Functional/Technical competencies required:

• Procurement
  Knowledge and understanding of the procurement process followed within Sentech.

• Health and Safety
  Knowledge and understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation, regulations and company policies and procedures. Continuous development of specialist knowledge. Build a culture of Health and Safety practices.
