About the position
A leading packaging manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Maintenance Manager with strong experience in preventative and predictive maintenance, breakdown analysis, and team leadership to join their team in Germiston and Johannesburg. The role focuses on transitioning from a reactive to a proactive maintenance environment, ensuring optimal plant performance, equipment reliability, and minimal downtime within a fast-paced production setting.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies
- Manage and reduce equipment downtime through effective breakdown analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead and supervise maintenance teams, ensuring high performance and technical capability
- Oversee maintenance of plant machinery, utilities, and infrastructure to ensure operational efficiency
- Manage maintenance budgets, track costs, and drive cost-saving initiatives
- Coordinate maintenance activities with production and other departments to align with operational goals
- Source and manage spare parts, ensuring optimal stock levels and supplier relationships
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
- Monitor and report on maintenance KPIs and performance metrics
- Support capital projects, installations, and plant upgrades
- Maintain maintenance documentation and ensure audit readiness
Requirements:
- N3 qualification minimum (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
- National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering advantageous
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in maintenance management within a manufacturing environment
- Experience within the packaging or similar fast-paced production industry
- Strong hands-on technical ability (not purely managerial)
- Proven experience in team leadership and people management
- Strong cost control and budgeting experience
- Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance systems
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems
- Experience with CMMS or ERP systems
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work on the factory floor and drive operational improvements
