Amazing opportunity available for a Maintenance Manager within the FMCG industry, based in Bellville. The Maintenance Manager is primarily responsible for all maintenance work including preventative and corrective maintenance.
Duties and responsibilities:
Staff Management:
- Recruitment:
- Sufficient and competent staff must be recruited in a cost-effective manner as required
- Ensure proper induction training of new employees
- Training:
- Ensure that all employees have correct employment contracts
- Staff must be adequately trained to be able to properly do their tasks
- Leave:
- Regular refresher training must also take place
- Manage all workers' leave plans to ensure sufficient continuity
- Staff Communication:
- Company matters must be communicated regularly with staff
- Departmental and functional aspects to be properly communicated with staff including goals
- Discipline:
- Ensure sound discipline in the department
- Apply disciplinary procedures when necessary
- Staff Performance Management:
- Make sure every employee knows exactly how tasks must be done
- Monitor performance
- Give recognition for good performance
- Engage corrective action for sub- performance
- Performance Appraisals:
- Performance appraisals must be done thoroughly
- Appraisals must be finished within the required schedule

- Must play an active and innovative role to ensure technical problems are solved
Maintenance:
- Scheduled Maintenance:
- Ensure thorough and timely completion of maintenance tasks as stated in company scheduled maintenance documents
- Must be familiar and understand:
- the operation of each machine
- how to adjust to optimal operation
- how to properly disassemble and reassemble the machines
- Break Downs:
- Organize and maintain a call standby system for continuous standby for after hours mill operation
- Be on second call standby for break down recovery
- All repairs on breakdowns must be done quickly and efficiently
- Walk the plant twice a day to listen for any defects
- Corrective and General Maintenance:
- Any defects on the plant that may lead to a breakdown must be reported and repaired immediately
- Daily inspections will be carried out according to document 7013 Maintenance Daily Inspection
- For repairs complete document 7015 Plant Deviation Report
- Maintenance of administrative items as well as buildings and any other equipment must be carried out as requested by staff in consultation with the General Manager
- Implement a Job Card system to ensure all required repairs are done timeously
- Spare Parts:
- Always have sufficient serviceable spare parts to ensure that there are no waiting times if breakdowns occur
- Document 7010 Emergency Spares
- Spare parts/equipment must be approved by the Maintenance Manager and marked before stored for use
- Spare parts must be ordered and stored neatly
- Consumable Materials:
- There must always be sufficient stock of maintenance materials such as grease, sieves, silicone, adhesives, etc.
- Consumable materials should always be used wisely to minimize waste
- Consumables must be stored neatly and be easily identifiable
- Materials must be carefully checked when received from the supplier before the receipt documentation is signed off
- Tools:
- There must be sufficient tools for all maintenance tasks
- Tools must be stored neatly and be identifiable
- A tool log system must be maintained to reduce losses
- Document 7009 Tool Check
- Do regular tool checks to avoid lost or damaged tools by maintenance staff
- Maintenance staff must be always trained to use tools correctly
- Documents 11030 How to use Hand tools, 11031 How to use Power Tools
- Logistics:
- All scheduled maintenance tasks must be correctly documented and filed timeously
- All maintenance documentation must be regularly reviewed and updated for approval by the Managing Director
- Deviation documents 7006 Food Safety and Quality Deviation Report plus 7015 Plant Deviation Report must be completed, signed off and handed back to the Production Manager
- Workshop and Parts storage:
- These buildings must always be maintained in a safe and tidy condition
- All unused parts in storage that is no longer of use must be approved and sold
- Special attention should be paid to pest control
- Professional Safety:
- It must be ensured that maintenance staff always wear the necessary protective clothing
- Safety harnesses must be worn and secured at dangerous or at high conditions
- Ensure that the lock-out procedure document 1053 is applied when necessary
Projects:
- Design:

Food Safety:
- Food Safety Systems:
- Ensure that food safety standards are always met by the maintenance staff
- Document 9004 Food Safety Policy and 8001 Food Safety
- Responsible for food safety in the following areas: Parts store, Workshop, Tool Room, Office
- Cleanliness:
- Ensure that the workshop, spare parts, tool room, office and storage areas of maintenance equipment are always clean and tidy
- Hygiene
- Ensure that maintenance staff meets hygiene standards applied according to document 8001 Food Safety
- Pest Control
- Be familiar with the Company Pest Control system as per documents 1022 Pest control Procedure, 9041 Pest control Policy, 8002 Pest control
- Contamination
- Be careful and monitor the situation so that no foreign objects would end up in products
- Area Responsibilities
- Appointed and responsible for food safety in the following areas: Maintenance Office, Workshop, Spare Parts, Tool Room, Storage areas and Passageway in front of workshop.
Occupational Safety:
- Occupational Safety Systems
- Be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993
- Ensure that maintenance staff is trained and comply with document 9006 Technical Staff Code of Conduct

- Ensure that sufficient people are trained and know how to manage emergency situations

- Manage flammable materials as per factory act
Weekend Service:
- Management:
- One weekend a month focus on maintenance tasks, whether it is scheduled maintenance or plant development that cannot normally be done during normal production hours.
Requirements:
- Qualified Millwright
- Experience in the manufacturing and food industry
- Strong mechanical and electrical installations
- Experience in team management
- Able to drive projects
- Can implement systems and processes
- Computer literate
- Inventory and parts management experience
