About the position
Our client, a market leader in the FMCG/manufacturing sector, is looking to hire a Maintenance Planner based in Kempton Park to maintain and repair physical assets effectively and efficiently, ensuring that all machinery is always in good working order. Reporting to the Mechanical Foreman.
Educational Requirement & Experience:
- Matric or Equivalent
- Minimum N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification
- Fitter and Turner Trade Test
- At least 5 years relevant mechanical and plant maintenance experience
- Proficient in reading and marking off mechanical component drawings.
- Skilled in the alignment of rotating equipment using dial gauges.
- Experience with fitting and maintaining couplings (tyre, bibby, spider, spring, direct).
- Competent in mounting, removing, and maintaining bearings, including bushings.
- Knowledge of gearboxes, including backlash, alignment, and float adjustments.
- Experience with mechanical cutting machines and milling machines.
- Pump installation and maintenance (peristaltic, mono, diaphragm, centrifugal, submerged, gear).
- Valve installation and maintenance (including gate, globe, diaphragm, ball, pinch, butterfly).
- Mixer and agitator maintenance.
- Conveyor systems: installation, alignment, tracking of rollers, belt splicing, and belt/chain alignment.
- Handling of bulk material equipment such as screw conveyors and bucket elevators.
- Pipe system assembly and installation (threaded systems).
- Basic welding skills.
- Taper key manufacturing and fitting.
- Knowledge of lubrication practices with oils and greases.
- Basic understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic components and their functions.
Job Description:
- Maintain a high standard of discipline and adherence to company procedures and required safety standards.
- Work on mechanical breakdowns and tasks when plant is in production
- Perform other tasks as specified by the Mechanical Foreman.
- To inspect all sections of plant under your control daily, to assess the condition thereof and effect necessary repairs or maintenance.
- To manufacture, repair equipment as identified through improvement projects, jab card requests, etc.
- Daily reporting of problems that happened on shift and filling in required paperwork.
- To identify improvements in the process that could be made by modifying or replacement of plant and to bring such information to the attention of management.
- To inform plant management of all situations or conditions that could result in downtime and to take remedial action as is necessary to minimise downtime as a result thereof.
- Maintain workshop machinery to ensure safe use. (Pedestal grinders, welding machines, ladders, etc.)
- Ensure that maintenance jobs issued are completed timeously and to the correct standard.
- Actively participate in improvement projects to ensure there timeously completion.
- Assist with production problems when necessary.
- Assist with training apprentices before leaving
