About the Role
An exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Electrical & Automation Technician to join a leading global pharmaceutical manufacturing company based in Cape Town on a temporary contract.
This is a rare chance to gain exposure in a world-class manufacturing facility, working with advanced systems and contributing to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical and automation infrastructure.
The successful candidate will provide technical support, compliance oversight, and ensuring adherence to pharmaceutical manufacturing standards, local legislation, EHS compliance, and Global Engineering Standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and maintenance for all electrical and automation systems, ensuring maximum uptime of plant equipment.
- Lead and respond to electrical and automation breakdowns, ensuring rapid and effective problem resolution.
- Ensure all electrical and automation work complies with national and international standards, statutory requirements, and equipment manufacturer guidelines.
- Support engineering compliance and validation processes, including documentation, inspections, and audits.
- Develop, implement, and monitor preventative maintenance schedules for control systems, instrumentation, and plant equipment.
- Provide automation and control systems expertise, including PLC troubleshooting, calibration, and system backup strategies.
- Partner with Operations, QA, and Stores teams to deliver planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
- Oversee third-party electrical contractors and vendors, ensuring adherence to safety files, SLAs, and site standards.
- Contribute to EHS initiatives, ensuring a safe workplace and compliance with internal control frameworks.
- Support Operational Excellence (OE) projects, driving continuous improvement in plant efficiency and reliability.
- Assist with validation, commissioning, and design reviews for new or upgraded systems.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements
- N6 NATED Certificate (NQF Level 5) in Electrical/Automation trade.
- At least 3 years’ proven experience in electrical maintenance and automation/control in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with PLCs, automation systems, and instrumentation.
- Strong knowledge of electrical compliance standards and safety requirements.
Preferred
- Trade Test Certificate or Diploma in Automation, Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical or FMCG manufacturing sector.
