About the position
Our client, a leading automotive Manufacturing company based in Durban, is looking to fill the position of Maintenance Assistant Manager.
Purpose of the Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the plant facilities, surrounds and machinery are maintained to ensure maximum efficiency and output. This includes total preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns both mechanical and electrical, people and project management, manpower and conducting weekly / monthly reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance:
- Support production in ensuring smooth machine start-up.
- Troubleshoot equipment, hydraulics, and/or other mechanical systems.
- Resolve machine breakdowns, identify faults, conduct root cause analysis and countermeasures with minimal downtime to production.
- See to it that all breakdowns are logged into the maintenance connection system.
- Manage maintenance planning, analysing historical information and trends to develop preventive maintenance plans, thereby preventing equipment failure.
- Make continuous improvements to improve machine performance.
- Develop and manage risk management concept to avoid serious machine breakdowns by identifying critical spare parts.
- Report and escalate to the production manager, any measure breakdowns to stop plant for a lengthy period.
- Establish link with headquarters (HQ) and other subsidiaries, to receive support and obtain best practices and deployment in the plant.
- Understanding of new technologies in advance to set up infrastructure and utilities to support the installation of new technology.
- Perform all assigned duties with a high degree of proficiency and take caution of personal safety as well as those around.
- Ensure to follow 5S principles to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Support the requirements of quality management systems i.e.: ISO9001, IATF16949.
- Mentor millwright apprentices as per MERseta requirements, as well as maintenance technicians.
- Conduct performance reviews of the subordinates and provide constructive feedback.
- Ensure that all KPI targets are met for the maintenance department.
- Report all lost time, minor and major accidents / incidents.
Engineering:
- Finalise process plans as per internal requirements.
- Based on process plan estimate the following:
- Capex calculation and support with the preparation for new capital approval from HQ.
- Tooling and jig requirements.
- Optimum equipment utilisation and sourcing and manpower requirements.
- Setting of the required process to meet product requirements (quality, cost and delivery).
- Receive technical standards from HQ and conduct internal verification or change point.
Maintenance Administration:
- Development and submission of maintenance reports timeously i.e.: breakdown analysis and downtime information.
- Develop work instructions for all preventive maintenance activities and repairs.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations that explain products or services to customers and prospective customers.
- Spare parts management as well as management reports.
- Champion the maintenance connection system.
Customer:
- Actively perform daily inspections of each facility, manage to reduce abnormal failures by performing daily inspections and maintenance on machines.
- Keep the manager informed to avoid delays.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 Senior Certificate
- Qualified Millwright
- Electronics knowledge and experience especially circuit diagrams
- PLC knowledge and experience
- 5 - 6 years' experience in injection moulding machine maintenance and installation
- Minimum 3 - 5 years supervising employees and maintenance department
- Computer literate in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Automotive industry experience
- Extrusion experience
