About the position
Our biotechnology client is looking for a Maintenance Artisan.
The Maintenance Artisan will be responsible for all technical work required for the installation, maintenance and repairs of mechanical and electrical equipment ensuring the reliability of services and utilities as well as to perform standby duties.
This position requires a versatile candidate. The working environment can be stressful and fast paced; the ideal candidate will be motivated and organized. Depending on the workload, the Maintenance artisan will be required to work odd hours and overtime
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure equipment and machinery are serviced and maintained at scheduled intervals
- Negotiate with service providers to always ensure the best price and quality of service
- Ensure that the Raw Water pH and Filtration Plant, RO system, HVAC system, Compressed Air and Boilers are always operational and that daily measurements are taken and documented
- Managing the critical parts store. In collaboration with team leaders and production manager, ensuring that the correct critical spare parts have been identified and acquired for all necessary equipment within the production unit and warehouse
- Maintain building and premises as per operational requirements
- Ensure personal work practices are compliant with OHSA requirements and that safety equipment such as hearing aids, safety goggles etc. are always worn when required.
- Write, review and update all standard operating procedures of the department (as directed) and ensure that the standard operating procedures for current processes are always up to date
- Contribute to the planning, design, construction and commissioning of new equipment and process trends as required by the Maintenance Foreman
- Ensure effectiveness in day-to-day operations, in an organised and always in coordinated fashion Ensure that all company standards and policies are met
- Support and promote the values and goals and good employer principles and practices and high standards of integrity, ethics and behaviour in all operations of the business. Other duties as assigned by the company
Essential Knowledge/ Experience
- Must be able to effectively and safely operate maintenance tools and equipment (such as grinder, drill, electrical saw, welder etc.)
- Sound electrical experience

Qualifications
- Minimum N3 Certificate with a trade test (Electrician or Electrical Fitter)
- At least 5 years’ experience working as an Artisan
- Experience in operation and maintenance of pharmaceutical manufacturing/Utility systems will be an advantage
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Wireman’s licence will be an advantage
