About the position
A leading packaging company is looking for an experienced Logistics and Warehouse Manager with strong experience in warehouse operations, inventory control, logistics planning and transport execution to join their team in Germiston. The role will provide leadership and operational oversight across warehouse and logistics activities, ensuring safe, accurate and efficient receiving, storage, inventory control, dispatch and transport performance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee receiving, put-away, storage, replenishment, picking, staging, loading and dispatch processes.
- Monitor warehouse capacity, stock ageing, slow-moving inventory and space utilisation.
- Ensure accurate inventory control, cycle counts, stock takes, reconciliations and variance investigations.
- Review and oversee logistics plans, including routes, loads, vehicles, collections and deliveries.
- Monitor transporter performance, proof-of-delivery controls, delivery exceptions, claims and transport costs.
- Ensure transport documentation and charges are accurately validated.
- Investigate late, short, damaged or failed deliveries and implement recovery actions.
- Lead supervisors and operational teams through clear standards, resource oversight, coaching and performance management.
- Ensure employees are trained, authorised and competent for their assigned tasks and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, safe material handling, security controls and incident-reporting procedures.
- Maintain SOPs, checklists, records, audit evidence and document control.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, service, inventory accuracy, productivity, waste reduction and cost.
- Prepare operational reports covering performance trends, risks, root causes and action plans.
- Work closely with Procurement, Production, Sales, Customer Service, Finance, Quality and Maintenance to resolve operational constraints.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate or equivalent.
- Relevant diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Warehouse Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years' progressive experience in warehousing, logistics, distribution or supply chain operations.
- At least 2 years' experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Demonstrated experience in inventory accuracy, stock takes, receiving, storage, picking, dispatch and transport planning and execution.
- Experience managing frontline teams, shifts, productivity, performance and training.
- Experience in manufacturing, packaging, FMCG, industrial distribution or another high-volume environment is advantageous.
- Experience with ERP, warehouse or stock-management systems, barcode/RF scanning and Microsoft Excel.
- Proven experience in operational improvement, root-cause analysis, cost control and KPI reporting.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse layout, capacity planning, inventory controls, stock-taking and materials flow.
- Ability to review and challenge inbound and outbound logistics plans.
- Strong ERP/WMS transaction knowledge and data accuracy discipline.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capability.
- Knowledge of budget control, cost analysis, supplier/transporter performance and basic commercial principles.
- Knowledge of SOP development, audit readiness, document control and corrective-action management.
- Practical application of Lean problem-solving tools such as 5 Whys, Pareto analysis and visual management.
- Valid driver's licence where travel between sites or operational areas is required.
