About the position

Postion Summary:
The National Research Foundation (NRF) seeks to make an appointment for the position of Liaison Officer who will report to the Science Education Manager: SAASTA, within Research, Innovation and Impact Support and Advancement (RIISA) at the business unit SAASTA. This is an Employment Equity position and preferred candidates would be African males. The position will be based at St John College Technology and Innovation Hub in Mthatha.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Key responsibility is the Coordination of the St John College Technology and Innovation (SJCTI) Hub activities, which include: Liaising with SE partners within the clusters Administration of the database of partners and awareness initiatives for project implementations Assist in coordination of implementation of projects plans across the clusters
  • Participate in clusters meetings, conferences, webinars and workshops
  • Provide support to clusters partners Work on logistics of venues / platforms in the clusters Monitoring of the implementations within the clusters Collect and collate clusters data for uploading on the SEIMS system and reporting Assist the Cluster Coordinator in implementing plans for the project/s Assist the Cluster Coordinator in developing terms of reference for granting and procurement Evaluation of granting and procurement proposals Reconcile contracts Provide technical advice to the potential grant holders Assist the Cluster Coordinator in development of project business plans and annual performance plans Provide input and information for quarterly reporting Provide technical advice to stakeholders Engaging with internal and external stakeholders on matters of common interest Continuous monitoring of expenditure to avoid over- or under-expenditure Assist the Cluster Coordinator in compiling project budgets Collect and distribute data on correct templates for SEIMS, monitoring, and reporting

Minimum Qualification:
  • Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7

Minimum Experience:
  • 3-9 years
  • Degree or equivalent (NQF Level 7) in STEM
  • 3 years’ experience in science education sector, experience as a teacher or tutor will serve as an advantage
  • Be fluent in English and IsiXhosa

Experience:
  • Experience in science education sector, experience as a teacher or tutor will serve as an advantage

Knowledge:
  • Education related policy documents such as CAPS; Green/White Papers; Frameworks and Concepts
  • Strategic planning and coordination Stakeholder and network management Resources management Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation systems and tools
