About the position
Our client is seeking a dedicated Legal Advisor to support their legal team. The candidate will report to the Chief IP and Legal Officer.
This role involves assisting in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, maintaining legal documentation, and ensuring compliance with legal standards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in law, with a focus on commercial and corporate legal matters.
Responsibilities include supporting legal operations, working closely with the sales team and negotiating platform license agreements, participating in policy development, and conducting legal research. This position is perfect for someone with a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in negotiating and drafting commercial and vendor agreements, specifically the Companies standard platform license agreement and data monetization.
- Contract management database (Soft Expert) – contract updates, reporting, management with assistance from Legal Administrator.
- Assist with improvement and maintenance of contracting processes and templates.
- Provide administrative support for legal documentation.
- Assist Chief IP and Legal Officer with corporate initiatives like litigation, employment matters, trademarks, and other ad hoc requests as the need in the legal department may arise.
- Participate in developing company policies on legal issues.
- Assist in compliance projects, particularly with data privacy regulations.
- Conduct legal research and provide updates on applicable laws and regulations.
- Support legal counsel in liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Education / Degrees: LLB, LLM in commercial law or International Law advantageous.
- Admitted attorney is an advantage
Minimum required skills and experience:
- 2-5 years post qualification work experience, preferably in a corporate environment
- 1-2 years’ minimum international experience in legal/commercial terms relevant to SaaS, software licenses or similar contracts
- Working knowledge of POPIA, GDPR and other data privacy regulations
- Ability to document complex contractual arrangements with attention to detail
- Proactive, collaborative work style
- Ability to work accurately and fast
- Ability to multi-task
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Advanced knowledge of use of MS Office products
