About the position
The Legal Advisor will provide comprehensive legal and commercial support to the organisation, ensuring that business activities are conducted in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations and contractual obligations.
The role will advise management and internal stakeholders on legal risks, contracts, compliance, regulatory matters and general commercial legal issues, with a focus on supporting the organisation’s objectives while protecting its legal and business interests.
Key responsibilities:
Legal advisory:
- Provide legal advice to management and business units.
- Advise on ICT, technology and telecommunications-related legal matters.
- Provide legal support on employment and labour matters.
Contracts and commercial:
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and agreements.
- Identify and manage legal and contractual risks.
Compliance and regulatory:
- Ensure compliance with applicable South African legislation and regulations.
- Provide guidance on POPIA, data privacy and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting the business.
Disputes, governance and external counsel:
- Manage disputes, litigation and external legal counsel.
- Support corporate governance and company-law matters.
Key performance indicators:
- Timely, sound legal advice provided to management and business units.
- Commercial contracts and agreements drafted, reviewed and negotiated within agreed turnaround times.
- Legal and contractual risks identified, recorded and mitigated.
- Compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and POPIA maintained.
- Disputes and litigation managed effectively, with external counsel costs controlled.
- Management kept informed of relevant legislative and regulatory changes.
Minimum requirements:
- LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification.
- 5–10 years’ post-qualification legal experience.
- In-house legal experience is highly advantageous.
- Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation experience.
- Knowledge of South African commercial, corporate and contract law.
- Knowledge of POPIA and data protection.
- ICT/telecommunications industry experience is advantageous.
- Admission as an Attorney of the High Court is advantageous.
