About the position

Apply legal expertise where it directly enables agricultural growth and regional development.

A respected Development Finance Institution operating in South Africa's agricultural economy is seeking a Legal Counsel: Agricultural & Development Finance to support regional lending activities through robust legal advice, contract management, and regulatory compliance.

Key Purpose of the Role
To provide practical, solution-driven legal advice to regional business units and branches, supporting the structuring, review and management of client agreements, contracts and lending documentation, while managing legal risk in a regulated financial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and manage agricultural and development-finance related agreements
  • Provide legal advice and opinions to support lending and client transactions
  • Manage legal and regulatory risk within regional operations
  • Review and sign off conditions precedent to facilities and agreements
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and internal frameworks
  • Oversee external legal service providers
  • Conduct legal reviews, due diligence and legal research
  • Support the development and review of legal policies and procedures

Minimum Qualification and Experience Requirement

The minimum requirements are not negotiable.

  • LLB Degree (4-year) or equivalent
  • Admitted Attorney (post articles) or Admitted Advocate (post pupillage)
  • 3-5 years post-admission experience

Experience in drafting and reviewing commercial, banking or finance agreementsLegal and

  • National Credit Act
  • Consumer Protection Act
  • Land Bank Act
  • Legislation applicable to financial institutions and development finance
