About the position
Phanda Personnel is recruiting a highly skilled and experienced Legal Advisor to join the team of a reputable public entity in the development finance sector. The incumbent will report directly to the General Manager: Legal Services.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering expert legal support across the organisation, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and mitigating legal risks in all business operations. This role requires a seasoned legal professional with strong expertise in commercial, finance, and public sector law, as well as proven experience in handling complex legal matters and engaging effectively with a wide range of internal and external Stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional legal advice across a wide range of business areas.
- Drafting and vetting of all agreements
- Conducting all legal administration to minimise legal breaches and addressing non- performing transactions
- Manage relationships with legal service providers and litigation management.
- To facilitate effective implementation and follow up of business transactions
- Conduct legal due diligence and monitor contractual compliance
- Monitor and interpret changes in statutory and common law, and advise the organisation on legal developments impacting its business activities.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum requirement is a post graduate degree in law with at least 5-8 years post qualification experience in a similar role
- Admission as an attorney or Advocate in the High Court
- 5 to 8 years legal experience within the financial and commercial environment
- In-depth knowledge of banking and finance law, securities, insolvency and commercial law as well as business rescues.
- Experience in equity and debt financing transactions Corporate Agreements and Documents experience (eg Memorandum of Incorporation, Shareholder Agreements, Joint Ventures (incorporated & unincorporated) and Partnership Agreements, Trust Deeds)
- Experience in recoveries

- Strong and advanced business acumen.
- Ability to interact with all levels of management and knowledge and understanding of commercial and insolvency law as well as of PFMA
- Understanding of a multi-faceted business operation
- In-depth knowledge of the 2008 Companies Act
- Ability to keep abreast of and interpret all legislation and regulatory requirements affecting operations.
