This is an entry-level trainee position designed to develop the successful candidate into a Commercial Property Leasing Manager. The incumbent will receive comprehensive on-the-job training while supporting the Leasing team with leasing activities across retail property developments. The role offers exposure to leasing strategy, market research, tenant engagement, lease negotiations and development coordination, providing the practical skills and industry knowledge required to progress into a Leasing Manager position.
Key Responsibilities
Leasing Support
- Assist in implementing leasing strategies for retail developments.
- Support the leasing team in achieving pre-letting targets.
- Identify and research prospective national, regional and independent retailers.
- Prepare leasing proposals, presentations and marketing information.
- Assist in coordinating meetings with prospective tenants and brokers.
- Maintain accurate leasing databases, prospect lists and deal trackers.
Tenant & Market Engagement
- Build professional relationships with retailers, brokers and tenant representatives.
- Respond to leasing enquiries and coordinate property viewings.
- Conduct market research on retail trends, competitor developments and rental benchmarks.
- Assist with analysing tenant mix opportunities and market demand.
Development Support
- Work with development teams to understand project timelines and leasing requirements.
- Assist in coordinating tenant fit-out programmes and opening schedules.
- Support the collection of information required for tenant design approvals.
- Monitor leasing milestones and report progress to the Leasing Manager.
Administration & Reporting
- Prepare leasing reports, status updates and meeting minutes.
- Assist with Heads of Agreement and lease documentation.
- Coordinate documentation between leasing, legal and finance teams.
- Ensure leasing records and filing systems remain accurate and up to date.
Learning & Professional Development
- Participate in lease negotiations under the guidance of senior leasing professionals.
- Gain an understanding of lease structures, commercial terms and retail property fundamentals.
- Attend retailer meetings, site inspections and industry events where appropriate.
- Continuously develop knowledge of the retail property market and leasing best practices.
Education
- Degree or diploma, preferably in Property Studies, Real Estate, Business, Finance or a related field.
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Will be responsible for managing a portfolio of predominantly Afrikaans-speaking clients; therefore, fluency in Afrikaans is preferred.
