Main Purpose of the Job:
The L2 Nutanix Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day support, optimisation, and stability of the Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure across Massmart’s enterprise environment. The role ensures high availability, performance, and resilience of the platform while maintaining alignment to agreed SLAs.
Operating within a hybrid delivery model, the engineer will manage Level 2 incidents, support escalations from L1, and collaborate with L3 engineers, vendors, and NEC XON service management to ensure continuous service delivery and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Level 2 support for Nutanix AHV, AOS, Prism Central, and Prism Element environments
- Monitor system health, performance, and capacity across compute, storage, and virtualisation layers
- Troubleshoot and resolve incidents, service requests, and problem tickets within agreed SLAs
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues
- Support patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of Nutanix clusters
- Assist with backup, replication, and disaster recovery operations (including Metro and Leap where applicable)
- Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles
- Collaborate with L3 engineers, vendors, and OEM support for escalations and complex issue resolution
- Contribute to automation initiatives using tools such as Ansible and integration with ITSM platforms like ServiceNow
- Participate in standby and after-hours support as required
- Ensure adherence to ITIL-based processes for incident, change, and problem management
Experience:
- Proven experience supporting Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure in an enterprise environment
- Hands-on experience with Nutanix AHV, AOS, Prism Central, and Prism Element
- Solid understanding of virtualisation, storage, and networking concepts
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g. ManageEngine or similar)
- Exposure to backup, replication, and disaster recovery solutions
- Experience working within ITIL-based service management environments
- Experience operating within hybrid delivery models (onsite and remote support)
Qualifications:
- Certified Nutanix Engineer (e.g. NCP-MCI or equivalent)
- Degree or Diploma in Information Technology or a related field (preferred)
- Relevant infrastructure, virtualisation, or cloud certifications will be advantageous
