About the position

Postion Summary:
SAEON-Elwandle Node requires the services of a dynamic, self-motivated individual to provide support for the various research and long-term monitoring data management projects underway.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cleansing and transformation of data before input into SAEON digital systemsMaintenance and development of databases and systems for storage, curation and visualisation of observational dataAssist with record keeping, data capturing, data processing and data curationAssist personnel with installation, configuration and ongoing usability of system hardware and softwareAssist with the procurement of ICT assets and related administrative tasks

Minimum Qualification:

• Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7

Minimum Experience:

• 3-4 years

• Tech / B
• Sc
• in Computer Science / Information Science / Information Technology / Statistics
• Honours will be an added advantage
• A valid code B driver’s license will be an added advantage

Experience:

• At least 3 years of documented experience as data technician
• At least 3 years of documented experience in computer networks and systems maintenance on Windows systems
• Experience in data cleansing, transformation, curation and visualization
• Experience in R, Excel, SQL, Python and Office
• Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• Sound written and spoken English communication skills
• Attention to detail, self-motivated, work as individual and as part of a team

Knowledge:

• Basic knowledge of LTER principles and coastal ecosystemsBasic working knowledge of oceanography data processing requirementsBasic knowledge of metadata standardsBasic understanding of Google analytics
