About the position
We are seeking a motivated and aspiring Junior SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central (EC) Consultant to join our client's growing SAP Practice in Johannesburg.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career SAP professional who has participated in at least one SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central implementation and is ready to build their expertise within a dynamic, client-focused consulting environment.
The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about HR technology and the SAP SuccessFactors platform. While you are not expected to be an expert, you should be able to demonstrate your contribution to at least one Employee Central implementation, possess a solid understanding of Employee Central fundamentals, and have a strong desire to learn, grow, and build your consulting career.
Working alongside experienced SAP SuccessFactors consultants and project leaders, you will contribute to the delivery of enterprise HR transformation programmes by supporting the configuration, testing, documentation, and deployment of SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central solutions across the full employee lifecycle.
You will gain hands-on experience with South African HR legislation, core HR business processes, client engagement, and the SAP Activate implementation methodology while receiving structured mentoring and ongoing professional development.
In this client-facing role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, participate in design workshops, support solution delivery, and develop the technical and consulting skills needed to become a trusted SAP SuccessFactors Functional Consultant. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys solving business challenges through technology and is eager to develop a successful career in HR digital transformation.
Client Engagement & Requirements Support
- Workshop participation: attend and support client-facing workshops, HR process walkthroughs, and fit-gap sessions; take accurate notes, capture design decisions, and produce clear workshop documentation and action logs under the direction of a senior consultant.
- Requirements documentation: assist in gathering and documenting HR business requirements from client stakeholders; learn to translate business needs into structured inputs for functional design documents and configuration workbooks.
- Design document contribution: contribute to the preparation of functional specifications, configuration workbooks, and process design documents under supervision — ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency with agreed design decisions.
- Client interaction: participate in client meetings in a supporting capacity; develop your professional presence, communication confidence, and understanding of client engagement etiquette in a consulting environment.
Employee Central Configuration & Technical Support
- EC configuration: perform hands-on configuration of SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central under the guidance of a senior consultant — including Foundation Objects (legal entities, business units, locations, departments, job classifications), Generic Objects, basic Business Rules, and Employee Data management.
- Position Management: assist in the configuration and maintenance of Position Management structures, including position-to-person relationships, reporting lines, and FTE management.
- Role-Based Permissions (RBP): support the setup and testing of Role-Based Permission groups and roles, assisting with user provisioning and access validation activities.
- Time Off & Absence: support the configuration of Time Off policies, absence types, accrual rules, and time account management within Employee Central, with guidance on ensuring alignment to South African leave requirements under the BCEA.
- Workflows: assist in configuring and testing approval workflows for HR transactions such as new hires, transfers, terminations, and data changes — learning to trace workflow routing logic and troubleshoot exceptions.
- Issue identification & logging: identify, document, and escalate configuration defects and data anomalies with clear, well-structured defect descriptions; support root cause investigation and contribute to resolution under senior guidance.
Data Migration & Integration Support
- Data migration assistance: assist with employee master data preparation, mapping, and validation activities for data migration into Employee Central; learn to use SFTP-based data loading tools and validate imported data against source records.
- Data quality checks: perform data quality validation checks during migration activities — comparing source-to-target data, identifying discrepancies, and documenting findings for senior consultant review.
- Integration awareness: develop a working understanding of how Employee Central integrates with adjacent systems such as SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP), SAP S/4HANA, time management systems, and benefit providers; support integration testing activities under guidance.
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Unit testing: execute unit test scripts against configured EC scenarios — including employment lifecycle events, data changes, and workflow transactions; document results accurately and communicate issues clearly.
- Integration & string testing: support end-to-end and string testing activities, verifying that EC data flows correctly into downstream systems and that cross-module processes behave as designed.
- UAT support: assist client HR and super-user teams during User Acceptance Testing (UAT); log issues raised, track resolution progress, and support re-testing and sign-off activities.
- Regression testing: support regression testing during system updates and SAP SuccessFactors bi-annual releases, verifying that existing configurations continue to function as expected.
Documentation & Continuous Development
- Configuration documentation: produce and maintain accurate, audit-ready configuration documentation, test scripts, and process notes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Continuous learning: proactively develop your SAP SuccessFactors knowledge through project exposure, Their's learning platforms, SAP certification preparation, and independent study. Stay current with SuccessFactors product releases and South African labour legislation updates.
- Knowledge contribution: share observations, lessons learned, and process insights with the wider team to contribute to Their's internal knowledge base and practice development.
This role is based in Johannesburg and requires regular on-site engagement with clients, with occasional travel across South Africa as project requirements dictate.
Required skills & experience
Non-Negotiable Requirements
- SAP SuccessFactors EC project experience: a minimum of 1 completed SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central project with demonstrable, hands-on involvement — in any capacity. Candidates must be able to clearly describe what they personally configured, tested, or supported. Those who were present on a project but cannot articulate a hands-on contribution will not progress.
- Employee Central configuration basics: working knowledge of at least some Employee Central configuration fundamentals — Foundation Objects, basic Business Rules, Employee Data structures, or workflow setup. You are not expected to be fully independent, but you must have done something real in the system.
- HR business process knowledge: foundational understanding of HR processes across the employee lifecycle — hire, onboard, transfer, promote, terminate — and a genuine interest in how these processes are modelled in an HRIS system.
- Attention to detail: HR configuration and data migration require precision — a single misconfigured field or incorrect data mapping can affect hundreds of employees. Thoroughness and accuracy are non-negotiable at every career level.
- Communication skills: clear, professional verbal and written communication; able to document accurately, ask good questions, and engage respectfully in client-facing settings.
- Curiosity and coachability: a genuine desire to grow and develop in the SAP SuccessFactors space; receptive to mentoring, feedback, and constructive direction; self-motivated to study and improve outside of project hours.
- Location & availability: must be based in Johannesburg (Gauteng) and available to work physically on client sites as project scheduling requires. A valid driver's licence and reliable transport are advantageous.
Advantageous
- SAP SuccessFactors EC certification: any current SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central certification — including associate-level certifications from SAP training programmes, academies, or the SAP Young Professionals Program — is a strong differentiator and will be given clear preference.
- Time Off / Absence Management: any specific exposure to configuring or testing Time Off, Absence Types, and Accrual Rules within Employee Central is particularly valuable and should be called out explicitly in the CV.
- Role-Based Permissions (RBP): experience setting up, testing, or troubleshooting RBP groups, roles, or user provisioning within SuccessFactors — even in a test or sandbox environment — is advantageous.
- HR administration background: prior experience working in HR operations, as an HR administrator, or as an HRIS system user on any platform (SAP HCM, Oracle HCM, Sage People, etc.) provides valuable HR context that accelerates delivery effectiveness.
- Data migration exposure: any exposure to data preparation, data loading, or data validation activities in an HR or ERP system — even from an internal systems implementation — is useful and should be noted.
- Additional SF modules: basic awareness of or exposure to other SuccessFactors modules — Recruiting, Onboarding, Performance & Goals, or Learning — beyond Employee Central is an asset as the practice delivers multi-module programmes.
- SAP BTP / integration awareness: any awareness of how SuccessFactors integrates with SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECP, or third-party systems using SAP BTP or Integration Centre is a bonus at this level.
Qualifications
- Degree (preferred): a recognised university degree or national diploma in Information Technology, Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Industrial Psychology, or a related field is preferred. Candidates without a formal degree but with demonstrable SAP SuccessFactors project experience will be considered.
- SAP SuccessFactors EC certification: any SAP associate-level SuccessFactors certification is highly advantageous. Structured certification support is provided and SAP exam sponsorship for successful candidates.
Please note only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
