About the position
The Junior salesperson will be responsible for supporting and growing sales of item products (including mechanical accessories) through catalogue-based selling. The role focuses on lead generation, customer relationship building, quoting, product recommendations, and supporting senior sales staff with technical and administrative tasks.
Requirements:
- Matric /Grade 12 (minimum)
- N6, Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Industrial Design (advantageous)
- Valid Driver's license
- 0-2 years in sales, customer service, internal sales or technical support
- Experience working with engineering components, CNC shops, automation suppliers, or industrial distributors is a strong advantage
- Any sales, customer service, or technical product training
- Technical Aptitude - basic understanding of mechanical components, aluminium profiles, or an interest in engineering systems
- Ability to read simple drawings or understand dimensional requirements (training provided)
- Strong commercial drive
- Willingness to learn technical products
- Enthusiasm for working in the engineering and automation sector
- Sales Skills including strong communication and presentation ability
- Confidence in customer interaction
- Good negotiation and follow-up ability
- Strong phone manner and customer-facing attitude
- Administrative Skills including high accuracy in quotations and order entry
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook)
- CRM familiarity (advantageous)
Responsibilities:
Sales and Customer Engagement:
- Promote and sell item products from the company catalogue
- Research and identify new customers in manufacturing, automation, packaging, materials handling, and engineering sectors
- Conduct outbound calls, respond to inbound enquiries, and support walk-in clients
- Maintain and update customer information on CRM systems
- Prepare and deliver quick, accurate, catalogue-based quotations
- Follow up consistently to convert leads into sales
- Assist senior sales team with upselling and cross-selling opportunities
Technical and Product Support:
- Develop strong foundational knowledge of item products
- Provide basic technical advice to customers (training provided)
- Interpret customer sketches, basic dimensions, or application needs to recommend suitable components
- Work closely with the engineering/design department on custom assemblies, cutting lists, and BOM preparation
Sales Administration:
- Assist with order processing, documentation, and confirmation
- Track delivery schedules and communicate updates to clients
- Maintain catalogue stock, sample kits, showroom displays, and demo components
- Support trade shows, product demonstrations, and marketing events
Relationship Management:
- Build strong relationships with procurement teams, technicians, small fabricators, automation builders, and project buyers
- Ensure excellent after-sales service and customer satisfaction
