About the position

To perform the duties of a pharmacist as contemplated in terms of section 35A
of the Pharmacy Act, 1974 (Act 53 of 1974), Regulation 4 Scope of Practice of
a Pharmacist. Act as a Deputy Responsible Pharmacist in writing and assume
the role of Responsible Pharmacist in the absence of the RP.
Under the supervision of the Responsible Pharmacist, coordinates and controls
production activities. Implements production plan/targets according to cGMP.
Supervises employees, engages in manufacturing processes and ensures
production commences as instructed in the Batch Manufacturing Record.
Lead and manage the factory Productions team, by working with team
members, to set priorities, work plans and deliverables and holds team
members responsible for their performance and delivery of the work plan.
Ensures high level of quality performance.

Location: Cape Town (Salt River)

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum qualification required:

  • B.Pharm Degree or equivalent.
  • South African Pharmacy Council registration.

Experience

  • 5-8 years’ experience in an internationally accredited Pharmaceutical.
  • Manufacturing environment demonstration strong leadership ability.
  • Computer literate – MS office, intermediate knowledge of MS Excel essential, Syspro an advantage.
  • Project Management experience.


KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Customer Service


  • Assist with complaints with complaint investigations when required.
  • A professional attitude is displayed when responding to a customer’s needs.
  • Methods for improving customer services are proposed, developed, and continuously updated.

Production Duties

  • To manage Quality on site by ensuring that SOPs are implemented and followed by production staff.
  • Ensure continuous QA presence during manufacturing and optimal functioning of production lines, keeping downtimes to a minimum.
  • Assist with Line-Opening, Line Clearing, and Line Closing operations.
  • Checking of Batch Manufacturing Documents before the start of production processes for compliance with SYSPRO.
  • Assist RP in updating the Batch Manufacturing Records.
  • Production Batch Documents Review & creation.
  • Ensure BMR is complete with regard to content and yield calculations and label reconciliation.
  • Release of bulk intermediates on SYSPRO according to specifications before the commencement of packing operations.
  • Assist with production trials as required.
  • Identify and be responsible for manpower/structural/equipment/workflow improvements.
  • Approving and co-ordinating the instructions relating to production operations and ensuring their strict implementation to ensure overall optimal efficiency.
  • Co-ordinates/liaises with functional Heads to facilitate maximum support where required in order to meet Production targets.
  • Research, drive, and implement pilot projects in order to implement worldclass manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Daily/weekly review of production indicators, ensure correct measures if required.
  • Responsible for start date/due date adherence.
  • Weekly review of schedule adherence.
  • Daily/weekly review of documents closed out against the plan.
  • Responsible for the daily production meeting with direct reports and functional heads.
  • Review/input of risk assessments and implementation of corrective action in liaison with group risk personnel.

Quality

  • Investigating production-related deviations, CAPAs, and Customer complaints.
  • Maintenance of Quality Systems and ensuring that quality systems are adhered to at all times.
  • To assist with self-inspection audits and preparing for audits by third parties.
  • Provide monthly feedback and reporting on self-inspections.
  • Assist and oversee in the facility, process, and equipment validation where required.
  • Responsible for maintaining the facility in a clean and tidy state at all times,following approved and validated cleaning procedures.
  • Ensure conformities to SAPHRAH regulations.
  • Resolution of quality problems.
  • Assessment of quality-related product incidences.
  • Assist in the writing of non-conformance reports.
  • Implementing and accessing the effectiveness of Corrective and Preventative Actions.
  • Providing monthly feedback on the status of non-conformance and corrective actions.
  • Assist in the execution of change control activities as required

Maintenance

  • Ensure that maintenance/equipment checks are conducted according to the guidelines specified in the relevant SOPs.
  • Ensure any equipment and maintenance issues are reported and corrective actions completed.
  • Ensure that Equipment and tools are in good condition to operate effectively.
  • Ensure PPM (planned preventative maintenance) is updated and maintained

Learning and Growth

  • Conduct training with operators as and when the need arises.
  • Maintain good working relations with production and quality staff.

Financial

  • Ensure the amount of reworks are reduced that may lead to financial losses to the company.
  • Assist to ensure the Production Department meets the production budget.
  • Assisting in complying and execution of the departmental expense budget.

Occupational Health & Safety

  • Ensure adherence to the required safety policies as set out in OHAS regulations.
  • Conduct his/her working activities that will not bring employee or product safety in jeopardy.

LEVEL OF DECISION MAKING

  • The Junior Production Pharmacist shall have the authority to request adjustments to workforce capacity.
  • The Junior Production Pharmacist shall have the authority to stop any production process in contravention of company policy, and to issue warnings to any person contravening policies or instructions.
  • The Junior Production Pharmacist shall also have the right to plan and amend production schedules in consultation with Sales Department & General Manager.
