Junior Mechatronics Engineer (Product Design) - CPT

About the position

ENVIRONMENT:

A South African technology company specialising in the design, development, and manufacture of electronic hardware and software solutions for the mining industry is seeking two Junior Mechatronic Engineers to join its product development team.  The successful candidates will be responsible for designing and testing enclosures and mechanical assemblies that protect electronic components in demanding mining environments.  Reporting to a Senior Engineer, the role offers hands-on experience working with various materials, 3D modelling, and test rigs. This opportunity is ideally suited to curious and innovative engineers who enjoy practical problem-solving, experimenting with new ideas, and building or developing things both professionally and in their personal time.

DUTIES:

• Design enclosures and mechanical assemblies for electronic products.
• Build 3D models and drawings in Autodesk Inventor and similar software.
• Work with a range of materials to select the right fit for each enclosure.
• Calculate physical stresses and loads on enclosures and components.
• Design and run test rigs, including destructive impact testing.
• Analyse test results and refine designs based on findings.
• Collaborate with electronics, firmware and production teams.
• Take part in research, prototyping and continuous improvement.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Honours or Master’s Degree in Mechatronic, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Graduates considered, with around 2 years’ work experience preferred.
• Background in junior product design, mechatronic or mechanical engineering.
• Prior experience with 3D modelling / CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
• Sound understanding of materials and stress calculations.
• Personal projects or side builds that show a passion for engineering.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Eagerness to keep learning and experimenting.
• Ability to work well within a collaborative team.
